Job Summary

The Business/Administrative Associate serves as the budget manager of the Dean of Students Office, which is comprised of numerous individual units. The Business/Administrative Associate assists in the preparation and monitoring of both budgets and financial expenditures, as well as managing administrative functions of the Dean of Students Office. Each of these tasks requires a high attention to detail and ability to work independently with appropriate guidance when necessary. This requires the Business/Administrative Associate to be proficient with Excel and to be able to work independently on completing tasks while also working collaboratively with Dean of Students unit personnel that do not have a background in accounting practices, Registered Student Organizations and their advisors, the Vice President for Student Affairs Business Office staff, and related offices within the Division of Finance and Planning.


Salary Rate / Pay Rate

$5,516 per month ($66,192 annual)


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in accounting, finance, business, or field related to position
  • Two years (24 months) of experience in or with the following:
    a. professional accounting experience, one year of which must be at an administrative level
    b. preparing regular budget reports and monitoring expenditures
    c. reconciling multiple budgets and projections
    d. advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel including the ability to create and work with formulas, functions, and pivot tables
  • Ability to:
    a. make decisions
    b. work effectively with the staff and public
    c. effectively communicate with non-accounting personnel
  • Detail orientation

  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of management principles, practices, methods, and techniques
  • Working knowledge of macros (Excel)

  • Work Hours

    Core Hours: 8:00am-4:30pm Monday through Friday

    The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score. After the application deadline, the names within the top three scores will be referred to the department for interview. The active register for this classification will be voided when the position is filled.
