Summary:
Under administrative direction, coordinate and manage operations conducted by University Bursar including: ensuring inquiries regarding accounts receivable business transactions are appropriately handled in a timely manner; monitoring progress and scheduling of daily operations; and participating in identifying/achieving University Bursar Customer Service objectives and goals.
Duties & Responsibilities:

Manage and oversee the daily operations of University Bursar at UIS, which requires managerial knowledge and administrative experience to ensure customer service and fiscal activities are conducted in alignment with University and University Bursar policies/procedures, and that cash handling and related financial transactions are processed accurately and in a timely manner.

Coordinate, schedule, monitor and manage daily operations and services of UIS University Bursar including: staff selection, training, scheduling, and supervision; conduct performance evaluations and manage work performance issues. Perform activities to support daily operations, including responding to customer email inquiries, answering customer phone calls, assisting walk in customers, and resolving escalated customer inquiries. Work closely with other University Bursar managers, as needed, to deliver consistent and transparent services and support.

Serve as a liaison with University constituencies and other internal/external persons regarding student and general accounts receivable, financial aid disbursement, tuition/fee assessment and payment, sponsor billing, and billing inquiries for the purpose of: assisting with addressing/resolving related issues; interpreting University and departmental policies/procedures to ensure compliance with established regulations and guidelines; and providing guidance to staff in determining an appropriate course of action.

Participate in identifying, developing, and implementing effective strategies and internal controls related to UIS University Bursar that improve the effectiveness and efficiency of University Bursar activities, and that successfully contribute toward achieving established University and departmental service objectives/goals.

Maintain extensive knowledge of existing and new University, Business and Financial Services, and University Bursar policies, procedures, and developments related to UIS University Bursar, and ensure changes are incorporated into and understood for daily operations where relevant.

Serve on University, campus, and/or University Bursar committees/teams as assigned. Keep informed about current higher education Bursar trends. Perform other duties appropriate for a Business/Administrative Associate classification.


Minimum Qualifications: 
1. Bachelor's degree in business administration, management, or a field related to the position.
2. Two (2) years of professional business, financial, and/or managerial work experience.
(NOTE: A Master's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year (12 months) of work experience.)
3. Based on position requirements, additional education, training, and/or work experience in an area of specialization inherent to the position may be required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
1. Two years of managerial and/or relevant business experience.
2. Ability to satisfactorily address/resolve customer service issues.
3. Ability to effectively interact with persons having diverse cultural/ethnic backgrounds.
4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking.
5. Strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain effective relationships and promote a productive work environment that encourages personal growth.
6. Ability to work independently and to exercise good judgment and discretion in handling difficult, complex issues.
7. Effective teamwork skills.
8. Strong time management, organizational and multi-tasking capability.
9. Proficiency with Microsoft computer programs/applications (e.g. Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook, One Note and Access).
10. Strong customer service skills to ensure the quality of services is delivered in alignment with University and departmental customer service objectives/goals, and in meeting the daily operational needs of University Bursar UIS Customer Service and Cashier Operations unit.
11. Ability to apply comprehensive knowledge about University Bursar operations and services and applicable University and departmental policies and procedures.
12. Ability to comprehend the importance of responding to client inquiries accurately and in a timely manner to promote customer satisfaction.
