Bursar Account Services Representative

This position is located on the Cornell University Campus in Ithaca, New York. You will be expected to work on the Ithaca campus, although you may be permitted to perform a portion of your work remotely.

What you will do:

The Bursar Account Services Representative will perform and coordinate all activities related to the Bursar Account Services area including Bursar, CornellCard, and Full-Service Payment Plan (FSPP installment plan) accounts. Providing prompt and courteous customer service to students and others seeking assistance and guidance on student financial accounts is a primary responsibility. Customer service will be provided via email, in person, by phone or in writing. This requires clearly understanding university policies and procedures, both financial and academic (where pertinent to the functions of the Office of the Bursar) to provide information to students, as well as being in contact with appropriate university departments for up-to-date information.


Other responsibilities of the position include:

  • Working with third party vendors, processing vouchers and journal entries.
  • Applying appropriate cash management procedures when processing and balancing student payments.
  • Coordinate with representatives from Financial Aid and Student Employment, Office of the Registrar, and other campus departments regarding student account charges and credit details.
  • Analyzing accounts and conducting other research as necessary to respond to inquiries and resolve discrepancies.
  • Identify problems or errors in accounts and determine the appropriate corrective actions within established guidelines and refer for action as appropriate.
  • Utilize knowledge of the integrated student system, PeopleSoft, CASHNet, Nelnet, Flywire and Tuition Pay systems to assist students and parents with financial services such as, FSPP Payment plan, Refunds, 1098T presentation, electronic billing, and online payment presentation issues.
  • Reconciliations duties and other job responsibilities will be assigned as needed.

Note : Overtime may be required during peak times to complete daily responsibilities

Other required qualifications include:

  • Associate's degree with at least 2 to 4 years of related financial experience, or a combination of education and experience required.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and decision making in accomplishing a high volume of transactions and communications that are urgent or of a sensitive or confidential nature.

Other qualifications, preferred for the position include:

  • Cash management skills and experience, as well as familiarity with financial transactions and accounting.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred, preferably in business administration or accounting.
  • Previous experience in a university setting helpful.
  • Previous experience in a customer service role helpful.
