YOUR POSITION WITH TNC The Burn Crew Member (BCM) will serve on a crew of 6 to 8 people. The crew travels throughout the Missouri Coteau (central ND) landscape: This crew is responsible for preparation and implementation of prescribed fire at various nature preserves in the landscape. Under the direction of a Prescribed Burn Leader, the BCM will assist with controlled burns. In addition, the BCM will assist with preserve management tasks such as boundary posting, firebreak preparation, fencing, tree clearing, brush cutting, and equipment maintenance when conditions are not conducive to burning. This is a seasonal position that will start April 11, 2022 and end on May 20, 2022. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The BCM will participate in preparing fire lines, maintaining equipment, post-burn monitoring and other tasks. This may include participation in wild land fire suppression activities in partnership with other non-profits, local fire departments, and local, state and federal agencies, either as a TNC employee, or as a volunteer or short term employee of the partner entity (such as an administratively determined, short term federal employee). All TNC staff actively participating on a prescribed burn must be qualified as a FFT2. The BCM will be required to attend and pass TNC sponsored fire and equipment training during the first full week of employment. Training time is paid at normal salary rate. They will perform other preserve management duties when conditions are not conducive to prescribed fire. RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE • Will perform other preserve management duties when conditions are not conducive to prescribed fire. • Works in a high stress team environment. • Works under close supervision. • Ability to perform heavy physical work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances.

MUST APPLY ONLINE AT WWW.NATURE.ORG/CAREERS TO JOB ID 50768 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS • High school diploma and 6 months of related experience. • Must be qualified, or able to become qualified, as a Fire Fighter Type 2 (FFT2), including Introduction to ICS (I-100), Human Factors on the Fire line (L-180), Introduction to Wild Land Fire Behavior (S-190), Firefighting Training (S-130), and one training burn serving under the supervision of a qualified FFT2. (e.g. First Aid, CPR, and driver’s license). DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS • Multi-lingual skills and multicultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated. • 6 months -1 year of related experience. • Must have valid driver’s license and good driving record. • Ability and willingness to follow instructions from colleagues.
