JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

We are searching for a Building Mechanical Engineer to join the Facilities Department of the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University. ARL’s purpose is to research and develop innovative solutions to challenging scientific, engineering, and technology problems in support of the U.S. Navy, the Department of Defense (DoD), and the Intel Community (IC).

The purpose of this position is to act as the Facilities Mechanical Operations Engineer for ARL Facilities; supporting approximately 800,000 square feet across 23+ facilities, serving 1,400 employees, executing $290M of research for Penn State University. The mission and objective is to provide robust and flexible facilities for wide ranging and complex research operations

You will:

  • Ensure building continuity of operations

  • Define system priorities for investment

  • Monitor system health

  • Support maintenance

  • Identify operation cost savings

  • Monitor building utility usage

  • Improve the safety and efficiency of overall facility operations

  • Review renovation scope and drawings in the project delivery process

This position will be filled at the intermediate professional level. Minimally, this requires a Bachelor’s Degree or higher and 1+ years of related experience.

Required skills/experience areas include:

  • HVAC design and heat load calculations

  • Pump design

  • Mechanical design review

Preferred skills/experience areas include:

  •  Energy Code

  •  Building Automation

  • Maintenance or Field Engineer Experience

Your work location will be fully on-site, located in State College, PA.

The pay range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$68,200.00 - $102,300.00
