Building Manager – Data & Decision Sciences and Undergraduate Science Lab Buildings

The primary role for this position is to act as the point of contact for the tenants, users and visitors of the Data and Decision Sciences (DDS) building and the Undergraduate Science Lab building at Virginia Tech. This person will convene and work with the buildings’ stakeholder groups frequently to discuss and resolve facility matters. This position will also manage the use of shared conference and common area spaces in the facilities and facilitate building events that may be either closed or open to the public. For events, this position will ensure compliance with university policies related to the use of university space and act as the facility representative to provide consistent information for students, faculty, staff, and guests. This position will coordinate with the occupants of the facilities on digital signage and messaging.

This position will serve as the facilities’ liaison for university offices. Should issues, questions, or events arise, this person will reach out to the appropriate university office to find a timely resolution. Examples include working with the Hokie Passport Office on access control, University Facilities on building maintenance issues, Central IT on building information technology issues, the Registrar’s Office on the use and scheduling of classrooms after hours, Classroom Audio-Visual on advanced classroom technology issues, Virginia Tech Police on facility security issues. This position will also serve and a building emergency management coordinator for both facilities.

This position will provide generalist level end user support and technical support to the audio-visual (AV) systems in the facilities. This includes proactive communication and training for all faculty, staff, students, and guests who use the installed technologies within the facilities. This position will periodically test the AV systems within the facilities to ensure they are operating as intended. Preventative maintenance of those AV systems will be performed by this position on a bi-annual and as needed basis.

Position Responsibilities:
• Provide top quality customer service to building tenants and external end users
• Work with tenants or outside groups to schedule and facilitate events/activities.
• Adhere to all University Policies with regard to facility activities.
• Act as an administrator for the facility digital signage solution
• Act as liaison to Hokie Passport access control for building tenants and events
• Act as a subject matter expert for the installed AV systems
• Periodically test AV systems to ensure they are functioning as intended.
• Provide preventative maintenance to AV systems on a regular basis.
• Ensure that classroom spaces are ready to receive faculty, students, and guests.
• Serve as a Building Emergency Coordinator for both facilities.
• Maintain required egress clearance in corridors and at exits.
• Maintain a clean and safe environment.
• Help coordinate moving or renovation activities.
• Maintain building inventory, key logs, and access codes.
• Act as liaison with Housekeeping, Facilities, and VTPD
