Lawrence Berkeley National Lab's (LBNL ) Energy Sciences Area has an opening for a Building Manager and Space Coordinator to join the team as an integral member of ESA's Operations team.

In this dynamic role, you'll coordinate space/building management, supporting operational and EH&S activities across ESA's research divisions, Materials & Chemical Sciences, facilities, and offices. Apply standard space planning principles, theories, and concepts to develop and implement office and lab space planning and short-range facilities plans. Utilize extensive professional experience and Lab policies to resolve complex issues effectively, implement best practices, and achieve Area and Division objectives. Oversee asset use and placement for efficiency and cost-effectiveness, providing technical expertise and strategic support. Collaborate with key stakeholders across multiple divisions and functions to streamline facility operations and ensure effective property oversight.

What You Will Do:

  • Serve as the key point of contact for designated Buildings facilities-related matters.

  • Coordinate, track, and troubleshoot facilities-related work orders from start to finish.

  • Plan, coordinate, and manage office moves and space-related improvements.

  • Coordinate maintenance, repairs, and installation of Lab equipment. Develop short and long-range plans for optimal space solutions.

  • Innovate procedural and policy solutions for effective space management.

  • Communicate timely updates to building occupants on scheduled activities and urgent matters.

  • Conduct regular inspections of division/area space to identify utilization levels, hazards and ensure compliance with regulations.

  • Establish and implement facility compliance standards and create Facility Safety Plans.

  • Lead and facilitate a seamless experience for staff and affiliates at every stage.

  • Develop and implement comprehensive onboarding and offboarding processes to ensure a smooth transition throughout the employment lifecycle.

  • Ensure compliance with DOE property management policies.

  • Review and oversee Materials and Chemistry Divisions Property management (including UC Campus), leading efforts for process improvements.

What is Required:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent years of work experience; or combination of education and experience

  • 4-6 years of experience providing specialized administrative and/or technical support, preferably in a scientific/technical/research environment.

  • Knowledge & experience partnering with a science community in implementation of space plans

  • Demonstrated success in planning and building management

  • Excellent organization and multi-tasking skills.

  • Proven ability to independently establish priorities, perform multiple projects simultaneously with short deadlines and frequent interruptions, and complete assignments in a timely manner.

  • Proven ability to anticipate and plan for all contingencies with strong problem-solving skills and critical thinking/analytical ability.

  • Proven ability to provide strong leadership and guide others.

  • Advanced computer skills using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and internet programs. Ability to work on both the Macintosh and PC platforms.

  • Ability to assess research and operational needs and understand and proactively address impacts to planning, design, budget, and schedules.

  • Experience developing, assessing, and maintaining operational programs, including procedure writing and implementation.

  • General understanding of EH&S and OSHA quality assurance practices.

  • Ability to establish networks with management and staff.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Valid California Driver's license

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Berkeley Lab policies, practices, and business systems as it relates to space management, ES&H, and onboarding and offboarding of staff.

  • Knowledge & experience partnering with a science community

  • Experience in facilitating technical meetings and making and giving presentations.

  • Experience in project coordination in a research environment

  • Demonstrate understanding of DOE Orders, National Laboratory work controls, safety and environmental

  • Experience Operating forklift

  • Industrial truck licenses

Physical Requirements

  • Physical ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds, and climb ladders.

  • Able to climb stairs, and ladders. Must be able to frequently climb inclined stairways and vertical ladders (six plus feet as needed) and must be able to walk to and from job sites.

  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, twist, squat

  • Ability to push and pull

  • Possess excellent eye/hand coordination and demonstrated manual dexterity.

  • Standing and walking for prolonged periods

  • Ability to distinguish colors to discern wiring and component color codes, safety-related colored signs, lamps, and warning devices, including potential safety hazards.

  • Able to use equipment like hand trucks

  • This is a full-time career appointment, exempt (monthly paid) from overtime pay.

  • This position is expected to pay $96,684 - $120,864 which fits within the full salary range of $96,684 - $163,188 for the N40.2. Salary for this position will be commensurate with the final candidate's qualification and experience, including skills, knowledge, relevant education, certifications, and aligned with the internal peer group.

  • This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule - a combination of teleworking and performing work on site at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, 1 Cyclotron Road, Berkeley, CA. Individuals working a hybrid schedule must reside within 150 miles of Berkeley Lab. Work schedules are dependent on business needs, and remote work schedules may be considered.
