Position Description


Advertised Job Summary
Under general supervision, performs landscaping and grounds maintenance duties for the USC School of Medicine-Columbia (SOMC) to include all School of Medicine sites. Performs general building maintenance to include preparation and painting walls, constructing walls, and minor plumbing and electrical tasks. Demonstrates commitment to conducting business lawfully and ethically by consistently adhering to compliance policies, procedures and regulations.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma and 1 or more years of experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Commercial landscaping experience.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Experience in all types of ground care. Ability to follow instructions and safely operate all related grounds equipment. Must have a valid South Carolina Driver’s license. Required to conduct business lawfully and ethically by consistently adhering to compliance policies, procedures and regulations.


Job Duties


Job Duty
Maintains grounds by mowing lawns, edging, trimming flowers, shrubbery, and trees. Cleans walkways, parking lots, and grounds. Disposes of trash and waste, as needed.

Job Duty
Performs landscaping and maintenance of grounds by planting, fertilizing and watering grass, flowers, shrubbery and trees. Properly mixes herbicides and pesticides and applies to grass and plants using appropriate techniques. Cleans application equipment and disposes of rinse water according to regulations. Operates heavy equipment, such as tractors, in the performing of daily duties.

Maintains landscaping and ground equipment to include sharpening of blades and replacing of belts and filters, as needed. Ensures all safety devices are properly re-installed.

Performs daily inspection of the grounds while observing for hazardous conditions such as uneven sidewalks, low lying limbs on trees and shrubbery, trash, or other obstacles on sidewalks and in parking lots.
