The Budget Specialist position will serve in the College of Atmospheric and Geographic Sciences (AGS) Grant Management Service Center (GMSC), providing professional administrative support and financial grant management for approximately 80 grants, including funding agencies such as NSF and NASA.

 

Primary duties include:

  • Manage, reconcile, and prepare budget information once per month for all assigned grants
  • Responsible for procurement entries for purchases of equipment, supplies, and materials
  • Responsible for entries of invoices, interdepartmental cost transfers, payroll transfers, and other similar instruments which obligate grant funds
  • Coordinate review and submission of labor and expenditure certifications
  • Enter funding distribution changes for grant-funded staff
 
 

Job Requirements

Required Education:  High School diploma or GED or equivalent combination of education/job related experience, AND: 

  • 6-12 months of accounting experience

Skills:

  • Effective communication with strong interpersonal and oral, and written communication skills
  • Able to understand a chart of accounts and code entries to the proper account
  • Solution-oriented and able to exercise sound judgment to solve problems within the scope of the position
  • Highly oriented and able to exercise sound judgment to solve problems within the scope of the position
  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office products with intermediate skills in Excel
  • Detail-oriented for accuracy of data and information

 

Advertised Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to communicate, including expressing oneself or exchanging information with others
  • Ability to engage in repetitive motions, including the movement of the hands, wrists, or fingers

 

Department Preferences:

  • University experience with Peoplesoft Financials
  • Associate or Bachelor degree
  • Some grants experience
