Position Details
Reporting to the Associate Director of Financial Planning, the Budget Analyst will support the development, implementation, and management of the University’s operating budget.
Responsibilities include:
  • Create and maintain smartkeys, attributes, positions, and commitment accounting.
  • Create and process budget and planning entries, journal entries, payroll earnings redistributions, and budget import files for monthly, quarterly, and year-end close.
  • Create and maintain reporting trees and queries.
  • Analyze job requisitions, employee change forms, and additional pay requests for budget approval.
  • Track position vacancy savings and analyze requests for temporary backfill.
  • Update financial reports, including month-end and year-end reports.
  • Process reconciliations.
  • Monitor budget performance, analyze budget variances, and project financial trends.
  • Review and approve journals and budget entries.
  • Synthesize financial data and present a clear summary of findings.
  • Support planning and financial reporting and analysis for designated programs of officer areas by learning the business and operations of a designated program or set of financial activities.
  • Maintain financial databases.
  • Maintain website for Financial Planning Office.
  • Perform other related duties, assignments, and/or special projects as assigned.

This position is a hybrid position with on-campus and remote work schedules. All positions may require on campus meetings. Remote work is only considered for residents of MA, VT, NH, ME, CT, RI, or NY. (Relocation assistance to CT is available for those who qualify).
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree with relevant coursework in fiscal management, accounting, business, or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience. Relevant student project and/or internship experience will be considered.
Proficiency in Excel, including formulas and pivot tables, and ability to organize and analyze data.
Strong analytical skills and problem-solving skills, including the ability to work with, synthesize, and summarize complex data.
Detail oriented with ability to maintain data accuracy.
Strict adherence in maintaining confidentiality.
Self-starting, flexible and responsive; able to make independent decisions in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships.
Demonstrated commitment to working within a diverse environment and collaborating with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience in Higher Education environment.
Two years’ experience in budgeting.
