POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Director of Strategic Planning and Finance, the Budget Analyst acts as a subject matter expert, preparing, managing and monitoring budgets across all funds, serves as general analytical support developing a wide variety of advanced ad hoc reports including analyses for costs, processes, scenarios, trends, and sensitivities used by the Director to enhance decision-making, serves as one of two primary financial analyst that monitors departmental revenues and expenditures, advising staff of financial policies and procedures, budget opportunities, implications and compliance. The Senior Budget Analyst performs recurring day-to-day budget activities in conjunction with providing quality customer service to all stakeholders within the College of Arts & Sciences and across the University
RESPONSIBILITIES:
As a member of a collaborative team this position will be responsible for performing ongoing day-to-day transactional activities.
Acts as a subject matter expert, preparing, managing, and monitoring budget status, carry forward, position control, revenue and expense accounts, and internal controls across several unique funding sources.
Serves as lead analyst on a number of administrative functions such as budget development, labor distribution, budget and accounting transfers and reconciliation, and policy and procedure.
Develop and maintain ad-hoc financial reporting and schedules that ensure accurate and timely information to enhance and expedite decision-making.
Develop and maintain a series of standardized managerial reports and dashboards.
Perform reconciliation and quality assurance checks on processes, reports, and data sets.
Prepare moderate to complex analyses of revenue and expense forecasts, enrollment, instructional workload, and other schedules using several data series.
Works with Director to develop, implement and support the annual planning framework, reporting and other planning related activities.
Aids Director in decision-making for determining resource allocation and long-range planning using various performance metrics, forecast models and outcome data.
Establishes, updates and maintains internal records/systems regarding budgets, special accounts, and payments.
Provide training in one-on-one, small group, and large group settings for college budget managers.
Develops, recommends, and implements plans and programs for improvement of performance, quality, compliance, and/or efficiency of operations and services across the College.
Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration or a field directly related to the positions responsibilities and three years of professional business experience; or a Master's degree in the same fields and one year experience.
PREFERRED:
Experience: 5 years budget, accounting, analysis, forecasting, and reporting
SPECIAL SKILLS/TRAINING:
Demonstrated budget, accounting and internal control experience, including knowledge of fund accounting, generally accepted accounting principles, and best practices.
Strong analytical, qualitative, communication, interpersonal, and organization skills.
Experienced with conceptualizing and developing useful managerial reporting.
Experience interpreting, reporting and communicating results of data analyses.
Demonstrated analytical and critical thinking skills needed to complete complex tasks.
Experience balancing and reconciling accounts, analyzing variances, etc.
Ability to interpret and report trends using financial and instruction related data.
Well versed with standard business processes, workflows, budgeting and forecasting.
Strong verbal, written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
