About the Position:
University Advancement serves Cal State Fullerton by building and strengthening relationships with the communities we serve to encourage advocacy, investment and support of the University, its mission, goals and programs in support of student and alumni success. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Budget Analyst (Administrative Analyst/Specialist - Exempt I). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.
Reporting to the Associate Director of University Advancement Administration and Finance, the Budget Analyst provides analysis, planning, comprehensive reconciliation, report creation, and monitoring of expenses for University Advancement budgets, including projecting annual revenues and tracking overall expenses, that will support decision-making for the Division. Develops and prepares trend and forecast reports; advises management and staff on university and auxiliary policies and procedures related to budget, procurement, and risk management. Works with appropriate Directors in University Advancement, reviewing the processing of purchase requisitions, check requests, and invoices following division and campus policies and procedures. Meets with appropriate stakeholders in University Advancement to communicate budgetary information and updates to campus policies and procedures. Will also assist with the review of finance documents and update financial information on the University Advancement Portal website. Other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications:
Bachelors degree from an accredited four-year college or university and/or the equivalent training and administrative work experience involving the study, analysis, evaluation, development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices or programs plus two years of related experience. Working knowledge of and the ability to apply standard theories, principles, practices, and techniques applicable to the program or administrative specialty to develop conclusions and make recommendations. Thorough knowledge of policies, procedures, and outside regulations pertaining to the applicable program or administrative specialty. Working knowledge of operational and fiscal analysis and techniques. Ability to take initiative and plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work in various situations where numerous and diverse demands are involved. Skilled in research, development, and evaluation of policies and programs. Ability to collect, evaluate, and interpret data to develop sound conclusions and make appropriate recommendations. Expertise investigating and analyzing problems with broad administrative impact and implications. Ability to anticipate problems and address them proactively. Demonstrated ability to effectively interpret, organize, and present information and ideas in written or presentation form. Ability to train others on new skills and procedures and provide lead work direction.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
Preferred Qualifications:
At least 5 years of experience in budget analysis or financial management, preferably in a higher education or nonprofit setting. Experience in accounting and financial oversight of departmental budgets. Masters degree preferred. Experience with Tableau, Dropbox, SharePoint and SnagIt. Ability to analyze data and make accurate projections using business mathematics and basic statistical techniques. Proficiency in using administrative computing system(s) on a Windows platform, MS Office applications and other relevant software applications. Strong proficiency in Excel required. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders. Ability to organize and plan work and projects including handling of multiple priorities. Thorough mastery of English grammar, punctuation and spelling.
Ability to compile and write reports. Ability to make independent decisions and exercise sound judgment.
