About the Opportunity
The Broadcast IT Specialist will provide technical guidance, administration, and support across a broad spectrum of information technology systems related to the broadcast television infrastructure. The position will support and administer television broadcast and multi-media equipment, systems integration, workflows, networks, databases, software, and servers in a studio environment, field production environment and the statewide broadcast IT network. They will work with the Director of Engineering Services to provide the direction of the architecture for networking, storage, servers, and various software-based systems for on-premises, private-cloud, or public-cloud services.

This position will assist in live and taped productions including configuring and managing Studio Productions, Field productions, satellite uplinks, video over IP and cellular bonded video transmissions.  This position will also assist in troubleshooting technical issues with PBS NC's Joint Master Control, as well as live over the air and live streaming events for the NC Emergency Operations Center (EOC), UNC Board of Governors (BOG), UNC campus Board of Trustees (BOT) systems and other events as required.

UNC System employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a 2-hour commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

About the Team
PBS North Carolina’s Technology Division is responsible for the operations and maintenance of the statewide broadcast network in addition to studio production infrastructure, information technology, and facilities.

Minimum Education, Experience, and Skills
Master's or Bachelors and 0-2 years' experience; or will accept a combination of related education and experience in substitution. 

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:
Experience working in a control room environment configuring and supporting equipment including video switchers, audio consoles, graphic engines, and intercom systems.-Experience supporting video/audio routing systems.-Experience in Software management and Server management.-A working knowledge of video encoders. Experience in file system management; and file transcoding experience including familiarity with the latest Video Codecs.-Storage system management and support experience.-Experience with web streaming encoders and web stream hosting.-Experience with IP and Cellular Network Bonded transport for video.- A basic understanding of traditional RF principles and applications.-An understanding of audio transport over IP on a managed network. DANTE, AES, MADI knowledge required.- Familiarity with the Adobe creative cloud suite, including Adobe Premiere pro. (Video Editing Software) - An understanding of networking best practices, equipment and principles applied in a multi-media and broadcast environment.- Experience supporting production systems including video switchers, audio consoles, video router, graphics, Intercoms etc.-Experience managing a MAM (Media Asset Management) system; ability to manage SAN (Storage Attached Network) and NAS (Network Attached Storage) systems.-Ability to build and manage media workflows and supporting systems; configure and maintain Transcoding systems, such as Amberfin (scalable transcoder and workflow engine); manage Archiving systems, i.e. Telestream DIVA (is a file-based video archive system that is owned by Telestream); strong understanding of broadcast trafficking systems, i.e. Myers Protrack; configure video automation systems.- Experience supporting video routing systems; configuring and manage video transport over satellite, IP and Cellular Bonding technologies; configuring and managing digital audio distribution over IP networks, i.e. DANTE ; (Dante is an IP Audio Network which uses standard IT infrastructure for audio transport, routing, device discovery and control), and provide server management.-Project Management experience including consulting with TV engineers on various system projects to best suit the needs of the broadcast environment.-Basic understanding of RF (Radio Frequency) principles and applications.- An understanding of Microwave Radio networks as related to IP data delivery.
