Job Description:

The BOLT Technical Coordinator will support the Associate Director for Graduate Student Activities and Leadership Development through involvement in leader training, participant recruitment, and assisting with overall program logistics. The BOLT Technical Coordinator will be primarily responsible for supporting Spring Training including but not limited to preparation and staffing of Training Trips, attendance at evening and weekend trainings, and support for Wilderness Medical Courses throughout the semester.  The role also includes coordinating and facilitating make up sessions should they be required.      

This position also serves as the secondary for all external and some internal facing Brown Outdoor Leadership Training (BOLT) program logistics.  The BOLT Technical Coordinator may be asked to serve as an administrative representative at trainings or meetings alongside or in lieu of the Associate Director of Graduate Student Activities.

Job Qualifications 

  • Bachelorâ™s degree required.

  • Ability to support BOLT program logistics including curriculum development, permitting and reservations, meal planning and logistics, and the demonstration of inherent technical and interpersonal skills required to lead multi-day, wilderness-based trips. 

  • Required trainings: Advanced Wilderness First Aid, and CPR training.

  • Wilderness (backpacking) experience required inclusive of knowledge of Environmental Ethics and Stewardship.

  • Understanding of issues of diversity; demonstrated leadership and effectiveness in promoting respect and appreciation for diversity and pluralism among students and staff required.

  • Strong organizational, administrative and time management skills required.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills required.  Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff required.

  • Ability to problem solve, develop policy recommendations, and provide creative solutions required.

  • Demonstrated skill in facilitation, including an understanding of group dynamics and leadership development.

  • Flexibility to evolve with changing university and campus life policies and goals required.

  • Basic computer skills (e.g., word processing, electronic mail) are required.  Ability to learn additional computer programs.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including some nights and weekends required.
