Job Description:

 BerkleeNYC invites applications for a Part Time faculty member in the Songwriting and Production Department. 

The Master of Arts in Creative Media and Technology, Songwriting and Production Specialization explores an integrated approach to the creation of popular music through the thorough examination of current practices in collaborative, technology-aided songwriting. Students will refine and bolster their artistic expression through analyzing current hit songs and writing music and lyrics, as well as furthering their technical skills through the examination of current production and writing styles and trends, utilizing the latest industry-standard software and hardware. Immersion into entrepreneurship, storytelling, and design thinking will round out a comprehensive toolkit for aspiring creatives in the songwriting and production space.

Reporting to and under the supervision of the Program Director of Songwriting and Production, the ideal candidate will have content expertise and be skilled in pedagogical practices that engage students and make education relevant. Additionally, they will be student-centered and dedicated to the role of Songwriting and Production in the education of artists. 

As a recognized professional in this topic area, the faculty member will be responsible for teaching:

  • Techniques used by professional mixing engineers in finalizing an artist’s vision

  • Incremental mixes that build skills to final mix

  • Industry-standard approaches to setting up mixes in a DAW, building templates and utilizing a professional methodology while increasing their facility with current software such as Pro Tools, Ableton and Logic

  • Editing exercises in vocal tuning, noise reduction, non-linear editing, spectral repair

  • Delivery of stems and mix materials as requested 

  • Basic mastering of provided tracks

  • Session files to check work and routing

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • All Faculty, staff and students are required to be fully vaccinated or medically or religiously exempt in order to participate in any activities on campus.   

  • Experience teaching at the university level (preferred)

  • Record of creative scholarship/professional activity

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills


  • Command of technology to support professional work and advance teaching and learning

  • Commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach courses in Mixing, as assigned, a 2-hour course offered in the Spring Semester on campus at 441 W 53rd street NYC.

  • Hold weekly office hours on campus, advising students in the Masters of Arts in Creative Media and Technology program at BerkleeNYC

  • Serve as faculty advisor as needed for students in the above program, including serving on the jury for culminating experience thesis projects

  • Teach 3 sections of this course weekly.

  • Submit syllabi for all courses assigned

  • Attend Department meetings and contribute to the faculty community of Songwriting and Production, BerkleeNYC, and Berklee

  • Hold weekly office hours

  • Contribute to the development of the Songwriting and Production program

  • Engage in professional development to maintain and continually advance teaching skills

The hiring range for this position is $70.00 - $125.00 per hour (depending upon rank).
