Job Description:

Berklee College of Music invites applications for a Part Time faculty member in the Live Experience Design Department at BerkleeNYC. 

The Master of Arts in Creative Media and Technology, Live Experience Design Specialization explores a forward-thinking approach to the design, management, and execution of live productions spanning music and the arts, through corporate and sporting events. Students will receive training in performance technologies including sound design, lighting design, projection mapping, LED panel technology, stage design and management, computer aided design, and video production, all supported by experiential opportunities. Immersion into entrepreneurship, storytelling, and design thinking will round out a comprehensive toolkit for aspiring creatives in the live experience space.

Reporting to and under the supervision of the Program Director of Live Experience Design, the ideal candidate will have content expertise and be skilled in pedagogical practices that engage students and make education relevant. Additionally, they will be student-centered and dedicated to the role of Live Experience Design in the education of artists. 

As a recognized professional in this topic area, the faculty member will be responsible for teaching:

Music Video Production: Students enrolled in Music Video Production produce high-quality music videos that tell the story of a song in a visually compelling fashion. At their best, music videos are “mini movies” that capture the emotional context of a song visually and can even expand on the story of the song’s lyrics. Through the use of standard movie-production teams, schedules, lighting, camera, and post-production techniques students gain real-world experience on professionally-run movie productions before applying these techniques in their own productions. The class experience includes analysis of music video examples, hands-on practice in standard film roles, technical exercises with professional equipment and software, and creative experiments with innovative filming and post-production techniques. 
QUALIFICATIONS

  • All Faculty, staff and students are required to be fully vaccinated  in order to participate in any activities on campus.

  • Experience teaching at the university level (preferred)

  • Record of creative scholarship/professional activity

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills


  • Commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion

  • Extensive experience as director, DP, editor and producer of a wide variety of video projects with a focus on music video content creation.

  • Strong portfolio of cutting-edge video content related to musical and theatrical events.

  • Passionate about innovative video creation and photographic techniques.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach 1 section of Music Video Production, a 2-hour course offered in the Fall and spring Semester on campus at 441 W53rd street NYC.

  • Hold weekly office hours on campus, advising students in the Masters of Arts in Creative Media and Technology program at BerkleeNYC

  • Serve as faculty advisor as needed for students in the above program, including serving on the jury for culminating experience thesis projects

  • Teach the technical aspects of lighting and cameras.

  • Teach standard production techniques including time-lapse, time-stretching, compositing, color correction, and tracking of objects and camera.

  • Demonstrate effective story-boarding and creative mockup techniques to effectively pitch visual ideas.

  • Demonstrate the photographic techniques necessary to capture quality images in studio, concert and theatrical settings.

  • Demonstrate effective collaboration techniques.

  • Guide students through the roles of Director of Photography, Gaffer, Director, Production Designer, Actor, and Editor for music videos.

  • Relate all class work to real-world experiences and hold students to professional standards.

  • Push students to create high quality video content quickly for contemporary audiences and distribution channels.

  • Submit syllabi for all courses assigned, which will be developed collaboratively with the Program Director.

  • Attend Department meetings and contribute to the faculty community of Live Experience Design, BerkleeNYC, and Berklee

  • Hold weekly office hours

  • Contribute to the development of the Live Experience Design program.

  • Engage in professional development to maintain and continually advance teaching skills
