Birth Certificate Clerk - Duke University Hospital 5300 Postpartum - Days (Monday - Friday 9 AM - 5:30 PM)

General Description of the Job Class

Duke University Hospital is looking for a professional Birth Certificate Clerk to join our team. The ideal candidate will have excellent organization and communication skills, as well as an eye for detail and the ability to work well in a fast-paced environment. The Birth Certificate Clerk must have a passion for providing excellent patient service and be able to exercise judgment and discretion when dealing with confidential information. Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

Process birth certificates in a timely and accurate manner. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of birth certificates. Ensure accuracy of information on birth certificates. Provide excellent customer service to patients and families when processing birth certificates. Ensure that all paperwork is properly completed and filed. Work collaboratively with other hospital staff to ensure that birth certificates are processed correctly. Exercise discretion and confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information. Remain current on birth certificate filing rules and regulations. Follow all safety requirements and regulations when processing birth certificates. Troubleshoot and resolve any issues that arise when processing birth certificates. Utilization of the vital records software will involve birth certificates, hearing link, CCHD and newborn appointments . 

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education

Graduation from high school or GED; or an equivalent combination of related education and experience

Experience

Six (6) months of work experience related to customer service, data entry, computer skills

Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification

N/A

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of HIS procedures and of manual procedures when the system is down.
  • Successful completion of TJC and other regulatory/designated requirements within the probationary period.
  • Knowledge and understanding of telephone etiquette.
  • Knowledge of general clerical practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of spelling and medical terminology.
  • Ability to apply specific departmental rules and regulations relating to verifying, processing and maintaining records and forms.
  • Ability to organize and set priorities.
  • Ability to operate computer terminal and other office equipment.
  • Ability to write legibly.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with other personnel.
