Scope of Job
The Department of Primary & Community Care), Population Health Division,
at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, School of Medicine (UTRGV SOM) is seeking a biostatistician faculty member.
The incumbent for this position will build a biostatistics consultation program for the School of Medicine. Job duties include providing study design and biostatistical support and consultation for faculty across the translational science spectrum from basic science to population health, medical students enrolled in research electives, residents, and STEM and undergraduate pipeline students.
Teaching experience in clinical areas as well as biostatistics and research techniques, a focus on population health, and evidence of ability to work collegially with clinical faculty from various disciplines is preferred. Candidate should have demonstrated success collaborating with investigators and interdisciplinary study teams.
The UTRGV SOM provides unique access to clinical and community-based, translational research programs along the U.S./Mexico border. Substantial population health programs with sister UT institutions allow for collaborative research on chronic and infectious diseases.
The Division of Population Health encourages applications from diverse areas of public health. Combinations of areas of expertise are welcome and interdisciplinary approaches are encouraged. Successful candidates will have doctoral degrees in epidemiology, biostatistics, public health, or related areas. We seek individuals with strong scholarly credentials and a record of external research funding. Appointment rank will be commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience.
Minimum Qualifications
Terminal Doctoral Degree (Ph.D.) in Biostatistics, Statistics, Epidemiology, or related field. Academic experience and credentials to be awarded rank at level commensurate with experience

Applicants with experience supporting research and teaching in the areas of chronic disease, maternal child health, aging, cancer, health disparities, and health informatics are particularly encouraged to apply.

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may
require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is
performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive
and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code
§51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of
Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least
135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement
Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week
and at least 135 days in length.
