Description

 

To use Statistical Analysis Software (SAS) on the creation of programs for complex data manipulation, preparation of analytic data sets, statistical analyses, data management and quality assurance. To prepare tables for reports, manuscripts and presentations as needed. To strategize and consult with researchers on epidemiology design, analysis, graphing procedures, and the sequential procedures to develop the programs for their final analytic data sets or statistical results. To meet with researchers and to work with little or no supervision. To document and summarize work for project reports and to define systematic programming procedures. To check and verify the work of other less experienced programmers and occasionally present results of analyses at project meetings. To work with multiple researchers in various schools at UAB and other universities.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Writes computer programs utilizing SAS software language and procedures to create analytic datasets, conducts statistical analyses for data management and quality assurance tasks as needed for multiple epidemiology studies
  •  Utilizes programming techniques to extract and merge data from numerous questionnaire data sets and exports final data sets to Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) or Statistics and Data (STATA) datasets as needed
  • Prepares tables, charts and graphs using SAS and Microsoft Office products for reports, manuscripts, publications, posters and presentations and occasionally writes drafts of analysis sections for manuscripts
  • Proofs text and tables for manuscripts by verifying tables in manuscripts against originally prepared tables or output results
  • Presents results of analyses at project meetings as requested
  • Drafts strategies and consults with researchers on design, analysis, graphing procedures and the sequential procedures to develop the programs for their final analytic data sets or statistical results
  • Writes Disk Operating System (DOS) language batch files to run Occupational Cohort Mortality Analysis Program (OCMAP) software for generating statistical analyses on occupational epidemiology studies
  • Works on various types of short and long-term epidemiology studies with small to large study populations using various types of epidemiology methodologies
  • Prepares internal documentation in all programs including systematic programming procedures and summaries of the work completed
  • Completes non-human subject IRB (Institutional Review Board) form and documents for subcontracts with other researchers at other universities
  •  Checks and verifies the work of other less experienced programmers and answers questions from other personnel and students as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Salary Range: $67,070 - $87,190 - $108,990

 

Qualifications

 
  • Master's degree in Math or a related field
  • Six (6) years of related experience required
  • Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement
