Biosecurity Experts Needed For One Day Event - $600 for Six Hours of Participation

Overview

We are seeking experts in the fields of genetics, microbiology, and virology to participate in a one-day event. Participation on location in (San Jose, Washington D.C., Los Angeles) will take place over six hours and is aimed at testing the boundaries and risks associated with AI models and AI-enabled technologies in regard to biosecurity. This is an opportunity to provide expertise crucially important to the mitigation of AI-related biological risk, as well as explore the intersection of this technology with research, development, and innovation. Participants will receive USD $600 for their time.

Job Description

Applicants with the required experience will choose an appropriate date between April 16th and April 20th, when they will attend the six-hour event. On that day the participation will involve the following:

  • Check-in and an initial one-hour training session introducing the language model functions and instructions on how to interact with the chatbot.
  • A further five hours engaging with the chatbot using a provided laptop (including breaks and refreshments will be provided)
  • Free parking is provided. Escorts to parking areas will be available in the evenings as required.

Requirements and Experience

No previous experience with AI models or chatbots is required, however applicants must:

  • Have at least one year of professional, hands-on wet lab experience.
  • Have at least one year of professional, or academic biosecurity/biosafety experience. This includes, but is not limited to, experience in national security or US Department of Defense settings and government agencies such as Battelle, Gryphon, Deloitte, SecureBio, or Helena. It could also include involvement in research related to bioweapons, pandemic response, biodefense, synthetic biology, and similar fields. Academic experience, such as working at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security or the MIT Kevin Esvelt lab or similar is highly valued.
  • Have a Ph.D in either genetics, virology, or microbiology.
  • Not have participated in this project previously.
  • Be eligible to legally work in the United States.
  • Have permanent US residency, citizenship, or be a registered refugee (foreign nationals on visas, student or otherwise, will not be eligible).
  • Pass a background check.
