Primary Purpose
Under the general supervision of the Assistant Dean for Research, performs a variety of duties to insure the proper care and function of shared research facilities.
Essential Functions
  • Maintain laboratory space; order and manage laboratory supplies. 
  • Collaborate with faculty and provide research space within the lab. 
  • Monitor and coordinate maintenance of shared scientific instruments; maintain service contracts; supervise access and use of a variety of shared instruments. 
  • Act as the instrument custodian and collaborate with the university contact revision team and vendors in drafting instrument maintenance contracts. 
  • Monitor procurement, use, storage and disposal of chemicals and biological hazardous waste in research labs in compliance with local, federal and/or university guidelines. 
  • Collaborate with researchers to develop and implement appropriate chemical hygiene policies and procedures. 
  • Draft laboratory standard operating procedures. 
  • Assist with identification of needs for personal protective equipment used in the research laboratories. 
  • Represent research division as the chemical hygiene officer; review and submit quarterly research laboratory inspection forms as required by the San Francisco Department of Public Health. 
  • Advise researcher and ensure implementation of local, federal and university regulatory requirements. 
  • Participate in review of chemical hygiene plan with Environmental health and Safety department. 
  • Provide summary reports on laboratory conditions to lab coordinator or Assistant dean of research. 
  • Maintain cleanliness of shred laboratory bench areas. 
  • Attend and participate in research committee meetings. 
  • Review received pilot grant applications before submitting to the research Committee for further revision and decision. 
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the research coordinator. 
  • Conduct research in collaboration with research assistant, faculty and staff dental, hygiene and undergraduate students. 
  • Work in novel molecular, cellular and molecular techniques; designing vectors and analyzing sequenced data using Addgene, Mcvector, NCBI Blast and Ecrisp application software.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology or a closely related life science discipline. Foreign degree equivalent is acceptable. 
  • No prior work experience is required, but must demonstrate knowledge (through research work) in novel molecular, cellular and molecular techniques; designing vectors and analyzing sequenced data as well as knowledge of Addgene, Mcvector, NCBI Blast and Ecrisp application software through any research work or academic studies.
