Summary

With minimal supervision, repair, calibrate, and maintain medical equipment and support systems of varying complexity at Michigan Medicine. The primary area of responsibility is whole-house coverage at University Hospital, Children and Women?s Hospital, Cardiovascular Center, and other on-campus locations at Michigan Medicine. Responsibilities include corrective and preventative maintenance on a wide variety of medical equipment. Equipment responsibilities include, but are not limited to, patient monitoring systems, nurse call systems, TV systems, patient equipment, operating room equipment, and other equipment as assigned.

Responsibilities*

Work performed is documented in the work order database system called AIMS. Additional duties include identifying and preparing parts and materials necessary for repairs and preventative maintenance on assigned devices. Cross-training for other Biomedical Engineering Technicians for expanded backup support is also required. Work hours are Wednesday to Wednesday, ten-hour shifts, 8:00pm - 6:00am. The primary job site is at Michigan Medicine's main campus. Technicians must have a valid Michigan driver's license and be able to drive a motor vehicle.


Required Qualifications*
  • An Associate’s degree in Biomedical Engineering Technology, or equivalent Military training is required. 
  • Knowledge and experience with advanced analog and digital electronics. 
  • More than five years of experience repairing and maintaining medical equipment, preferably in a hospital environment. 
  • Valid Michigan driver’s license and be able to drive a motor vehicle.

Work Schedule

This position is Wednesday to Wednesday, ten-hour shifts, 8:00pm - 6:00am.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the U-M Skilled Trades Union, Inc., which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.


Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
