Biology Financial Generalist

Finance Generalists are hybrid positions, responsible for a variety of professional level work across various financial disciplines. They possess a solid financial background, either gained through work experience or education, which allows them to assume a wide range of duties across multiple areas, including accounting, budget, payroll, financial aid, financial analysis, purchasing, or treasury. Finance Generalists work on behalf of a program, function, or department, independently executing a range of financial responsibilities, based on the organization's needs.

  • Develop and implement accurate, timely, and complete budget and accounting documents, spreadsheets, and templates.
  • Develop and provide financial forecasts. Reconcile forecasts to actual results. Complete all related University requirements and submittals, adhering to department and institutional standards and timelines.
  • Post-award grant management that includes processing NCE, MTA agreements, annual sponsor reporting, subaward set-ups and account closings.  Monitor grant account balances and spending.
  • Process payroll accounting adjustments and journal entries.
  • Serve as representatives for the organization in wider institutional finance initiatives. Serve on committees and attend standing meetings. Participate in training sessions to keep apprised of changes in policy and procedures.
  • Oversee the preparation of purchase orders and payment vouchers. Ensure that bills are paid promptly so the department complies with the University's requirements. Responsible for resolving any discrepancies with vendors as needed.

  • Track fund accounts, special projects, or tasks to ensure appropriate entries are made and monitor the account balances.
  • Manage graduate student program finances in SAFM and Workday Financial System.
  • Oversee department T&E cards working in conjunction with fiscal tech on monthly expensing.  Be the department resource for questions about T&E cards and expense reports.
  • Maintain financial records for department funds, following University and departmental policies and procedures, and maintain all documentation and records to meet audit requirements.
  • Coordinate faculty summer wages/salaries and financial transactions for special projects and conferences.
  • Act as Effort Reporting Coordinator for the department
  • Supervision of Fiscal Technician position.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor's degree.
Experience: At least two years of experience. Equivalent experience accepted in lieu of degree.
Licensure: None


PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
