About the Department
 

One of the first departments founded at the University of Chicago was the Department of Chemistry. Since then, The University of Chicago has been the recipient of more than 73 Nobel Prize recipients, 15 of which came from the Department of Chemistry. Our current faculty have considerable strength in inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry, as well as in interdisciplinary research that delves into biology, physics, and materials science.

Job Summary
 

The principal contribution is providing routine or standardized laboratory support of research projects under direct supervision. In this laboratory, projects are developed using molecular biology techniques to study mechanisms of control of genetic expression.

Responsibilities

• Responsibilities may include the following laboratory duties: assisting lab members in preparing and conducting experiments; following established procedures or protocols, providing assistance to supervisor with research projects; performing basic laboratory techniques.

• Preparation of cfDNA samples.

• Isolation of cfDNA and gDNA from tissue.

• Construction of 5hmC-Seal-seq libraries for 5hmC profiling.

• Assisting in preparation of samples for sequencing.

• Maintains technical and administrative support for a research project.

• Installs, sets up, and performs experiments, interacting with students and other laboratory staff under the direction of the principal investigator.

• Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
 

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:         

• Bachelor's degree in a field relevant to the research being conducted.

Experience:       

• Worked in a laboratory setting.

• Understands basic laboratory techniques.

• Experience in sequencing of DNA.
