This position will be expected to use their expertise to contribute to accomplish the goals of the Nature Coast Aquatic Preserve (NCAP) and adjacent Aquatic Preserves (see https://floridadep.gov/NatureCoastAP). Specifically, this position will be expected to:
Conduct monthly water quality field sampling as part of Project COAST. Includes field tasks such as operating outboard vessels and airboats, trailering vessels, driving to field stations. Includes lab tasks such as prepare sampling equipment, calibrate probes, maintain equipment in good working order, keep supplies stocked, conduct spectrophotometric analyses. Must ensure that staff and students follow field and lab procedures in accordance with established SOPs. Modify existing or create new field and lab procedures to meet contract deliverables.
Conduct natural resource monitoring such as annual seagrass monitoring program for NCAP. Includes field tasks such as operating outboard vessels and airboats, trailering vessels, driving to field stations. Includes lab tasks such as prepare sampling equipment, calibrate probes, maintain equipment in good working order, keep supplies stocked, and preparing datasheets. Must ensure that staff and students follow field and lab procedures in accordance with established SOPs. Modify existing or create new field and lab procedures to meet contract deliverables.
Participate in additional tasks related to the  NCAP management plan such as stakeholder education and communication, marine debris cleanups, student research linked to NCAP priorities, and similar events.
Office tasks such as field volunteer recruitment and management, data entry and summary reporting for water quality and natural resource monitoring programs. Enter data according to appropriate format and QA/QC plans. Assist with the preparation of quarterly reports and data summaries.

$45,600 - $48,000

(1) Graduate training in related area.
(2) Bachelor's degree in biology, marine science, ecology or a closely related field and 3 years of experience or master's degree in relevant field and 1 year of relevant experience.
(3) Knowledge of scientific methods including experimental design, data collection, and statistical and/or spatial analyses, especially for applied management applications.
(4) Experience in both field and laboratory-oriented procedures, especially those relevant to water quality and benthic habitat sampling in shallow water (e.g., outboard motor and airboat operation, instrument calibration, seagrass transect and quadrat experience).
(5) High-level communication skills, both oral and written

This is a Time-Limited position.

This position requires a State of Florida Driver’s License and a State of Florida Boater Safety Card.

Physical capability to conduct field and laboratory work. Field monitoring responsibilities require travel to coastal locations in Citrus, Pasco, and Hernando Counties, with additional occasional travel to Levy, Dixie, Taylor, and Wakulla Counties. Lab functions are performed in Gainesville and the location of office functions is flexible.
