Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Bioinformatics Specialist, Per Diem within the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey. The primary purpose of the Bioinformatics Specialist, Per Diem is to provide professional scientific expertise and technical support in the planning and execution of projects related to research and process development in the field of microbiome, metabolomics, and multi-omics integration in breast cancer epidemiological research.
 
Among the key duties for this position are the following:
  • Performs complex bioinformatics data management and analysis; conducts research processes and procedures in the PI laboratory. 
  • Assists in the acquisition and analysis of data, using bioinformatics, computational, and systems biology tools. 
  • Participates in the planning, development, and implementation of laboratory and research studies as assigned and approved by the Principal Investigator.
  • Trains and provides guidance to junior laboratory personnel and provides assistance in the preparation of manuscripts, grant applications, and slides for scientific presentations.
  • Collaborates with internal and external researchers on analyzing and interpreting cancer sequencing data.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Masters-level or Ph.D. Degree preferred, strong preference for Degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Epidemiology, or Biostatistics.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • A minimum of 2+ years’ work/research experience in bioinformatics, computer science, biology, biochemistry or similar. 
  • 1+ years of demonstration of exposure to NGS data analysis; experience using standard NGS analysis software. 
  • Experience in cancer genomics, microbiome, and metabolomics analysis. 
  • Programming skills in R, Python, SAS, Perl, BASH or similar. 
  • Training in statistics or machine learning is a plus. 
  • Ability to serve as a bridge between experimentalists, clinicians and technical staff. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently or as part of a team. 
  • Effective oral and communication skills. Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint. 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a Linux environment. Experience working in high-performance computing environments preferred. 
  • Experience working with NCBI dbGaP, TCGA, COSMIC data preferred. 
  • Experience in scRNAseq or long reads data analysis is a plus.
