Position Summary
We are seeking a talented, self-motivated Bioinformatics Scientist with a background in developing data processing pipelines and omics data analysis. This individual will apply computational techniques in analyzing large-scale genomics/epigenomic data, create data-driven models and data visualizations, write and prepare manuscripts and other materials for internal and external audiences, and assist in grant applications.


Job Description

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Designs, Develops, Implements:

  • Algorithms and computer software for omics-based data sets.
  • Data management and analysis solutions that aid in the storage, investigation, and dissemination of large data sets.

Reads academic papers to identify and explain best available methods for bioinformatics and genomics analyses. Evaluates software for same.

Assists with grant preparation and reporting of methods, data, and results.

Designs, maintains, and improves databases for tracking experiments and visualizing and results.

Develops high quality software for data quality control.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in computer science or a closely related field and three years of experience in bioinformatics, which can overlap with the time spent on the master’s.
  • Experience analyzing RNA-Seq data.
  • Experience designing databases for large, high-throughput data generation projects.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent software development, documentation, and dissemination skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and explain academic research papers.


Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, bioinformatics, biostatistics, or related field plus four years of experience; or master’s degree in computer science, bioinformatics, biostatistics, or related field plus two years of experience; or combined education and experience of nine years.

Salary Range
$51,400.00 - $93,400.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
