We are seeking a highly motivated Bioinformatics Research Technician to join the Hur Lab at HHMI, located on-site at Boston Children’s Hospital. The lab strives to discover and define molecular principles that govern self vs. non-self discrimination by the vertebrate immune system. They use a multidisciplinary approach, involving structural biology, biochemistry and cell biology. This position is for an energetic individual interested in making fundamental discoveries in transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulatory processes during antiviral immune response and T cell development. About the Bioinformatics Research Technician role:
This role is an incredible opportunity to be mentored in an innovative laboratory and further grow your skills within the realm of computational biology and bioinformatics. You will work closely with computational and experimental colleagues to understand various methods for detecting and analyzing changes in gene expression, chromatin landscape and RNA structure and functions.

What you’ll do:

  • Working alongside informatics colleagues to clean and analyze newly generated data and public datasets.

  • Creating pipelines using existing analysis tools to process data in an automated and efficient fashion.

  • Responsible for documentation and error reporting for existing tools.

  • Ensuring data quality control is constantly and consistently applied to incoming data sets.

  • Creating reports of data quality and communicate these to computational staff.


What you bring:

  • A bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, physics, engineering, computer science, bioinformatics or other fields with quantitative knowledge is required. Neuroscience or psychology graduates with considerable computational experience will also be considered. Applicants with advanced degrees are also welcome to apply.  

  • Strong initiative and ability to take ownership of assigned tasks and projects.

  • Practical experience with Linux environments and proficiency in Python or R is required; an interest in (or experience with) cloud computing would be a plus.

  • Consistency in driving established protocols and pipelines.

  • Solid knowledge of basic statistics and statistical methods.

  • Knowledge of genetic analysis and tools is preferred, but not required.

  • Familiarity with or interest in studying immunology and cell biology.

  • Demonstrated attention to detail and analytical skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse, multidisciplinary team environment.

  • Excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, and written and oral presentation skills.

  • An ability to be flexible and respond to shifting priorities in a dynamic setting.

Compensation Range

$60,720.00 (minimum) - $75,800.00 (midpoint) - $98,560.00 (maximum)

HHMI’s salary structure is developed based on relevant job market data. HHMI considers a candidate's education, previous experiences, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity when making job offers. Typically, a new hire for this position in this location is compensated between the minimum and the midpoint of the salary range.
