The Bioinformatics Core Facility within the Division of Health Informatics in the Department of Pediatrics is seeking a Bioinformatics Research Specialist. The Bioinformatics Research specialist will work as a data scientist/health informatician/bioinformatician and lead the analysis of multi-omics datasets across a broad range of pediatric diseases. The candidate will independently develop informatics methods/algorithm development to analyze omics datasets generated from research and clinical projects at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, developing nf-core pipelines, creating, and deploying shiny apps. The candidate will also work in close collaboration with the faculties and physicians at Children’s and provide support with high-throughput data analysis, statistical support, grant preparation, manuscript writing, and scientific presentations. Equivalent relevant work experience may be substituted for degree requirement. PhD is preferred. This position is located at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh in Lawrenceville. PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Criminal Record Check will be required prior to the start of employment. Job Summary

Organizes and facilitates data collection and conducts statistical analysis of datasets while working across multiple, simultaneous projects. Applies scientific methodology and statistical analyses to implement appropriate methodologies for complex data management and statistical analyses. Facilitates algorithm development, software development, and result interpretation. Assists with grant preparations and staff training. Manipulates datasets and clean data and facilitates quality control procedures to ensure data accuracy.


Essential Functions 

· Organizes and facilitates experimental design and power analysis. · Facilitates algorithm/methods development, software development, and result interpretation of high-throughput omics datasets including, but not limited to, single cell and spatial omics. · Applies bioinformatics methodology and statistical analyses to conceptualize, propose, and implement appropriate methodologies for complex data analyses of all types of omics data. · Assists with the preparation of grant applications and submission of manuscripts for publication in peer reviewed scientific journals. Revise analysis sections and results as requested by investigators and journal editors. · Generate, document, and maintain reproducible analytical pipelines. · Ability to manage multiple and conflicting obligations and deadlines. · Demonstrated ability to work and communicate with an extensive array of collaborators. · Conduct hands-on data analysis workshops to a broad range of audience. · Assists with training staff as directed.
