Summary

We are seeking a Bioinformatician-Computational Biologist Intermediate to work in a highly productive, collaborative laboratory group the University of Michigan studying connections between cutaneous inflammation and autoimmune diseases.  Experience is required in at least two domains characteristic of the bioinformatics, including at least one biological/biomedical/clinical science and one quantitative/informatics/computing science, with aptitude for others. Successful candidates will be able to analyze large and complex biological, clinical, and/or 'omics datasets using reproducible analysis approaches (e.g. analysis pipelines). Experience with single cell RNA-seq is preferred. Employee will prepare and present data and analysis results to stakeholders, author/co-author publications and/or present results at conferences. The applicant is expected to be well versed in the scientific process, with sufficient knowledge of lab-based research processes to inform analytic pipelines.

Responsibilities*

Applicant will be expected to utilize existing pipelines to analyze data and help to develop new analytic pipelines with our informatics team.   

  • Perform cleaning and documentation of data generated from studies run by lab investigators; these may include primary data, as well as data from large databases, such as GEO.
  • Writing programs to clean data and perform statistical analyses in R and/or Python, including the use of Seurat or similar.
  • Interface, share data, and communicate between lab and collaborative lab teams

Applicants will be expected to complete their own projects and interface with graduate and undergraduate students in various aspects is expected, and assistance with other projects at the discretion of the PI is also expected.

  • Formulating and implementing statistical analysis plans tailored to specific project needs
  • Documentation and presentation of analytic results
  • Creating data visualizations for data briefs, manuscripts, or presentations
  • Posting of datasets to public databases to facilitate data transfer after publications are completed.

Required Qualifications*

Intermediate/Associate Level:

  • Bachelor degree in a recognized field of science or learning which is directly related to the duties of the position
  • Demonstration of substantial analytic independence and figure generation for manuscripts is expected.

Desired Qualifications*

Intermediate/Associate Level:

  • More advanced training or work experience is desirable. 
  • Self-directed learner who will use the literature and informational databases such as GitHub to help guide analytic strategies
  • Ability to learn new pipelines and write code as needed
  • High organizational skillsets for tracking data analysis pipelines
  • Collaborative team member that likes working on multiple projects simultaneously

Background Screening
