Posting Summary
Rutgers School of Dental Medicine (RSDM) is seeking a Billing Technician to work in the Billing Department. Under general supervision of the Manager of Billing & Collections, performs dental insurance billing activities and other related insurance billing functions for Rutgers School
of Dental Medicine.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
  • Prepares and submits Medicaid/Medicaid HMO and other third-party payer pre-authorizations; identifies x-rays and other information required for pre-authorizations and attaches them to the claim to be submitted electronically.
  • Scans all pre-authorization approvals, denials, appeals etc. into the patient’s record.
  • Informs student doctors when pre-authorization approvals/denials are received and assists the students in the submission of appeals of denied pre-authorizations.
  • Keeps abreast of all Medicaid, Medicare and third-party billing procedures and advises doctors, students, of such changes.
  • Reviews explanation of benefits and determines when problems in payment reimbursement exist, resolves questions, inconsistencies or missing data.
  • Provides follow up on all incorrect and/or incomplete reimbursement; contacts insurance companies to resolve reimbursement issues.
  • Recommends and implements billing procedures, which contribute to the efficiency of the clinic’s insurance billing and collection system.
  • Enters appropriate notes into each patients record documenting the submission, receipt of authorization approvals and denials.
  • Reviews electronic claim validation reports, corrects and resubmits any claims that have been rejected.
  • Understands and adheres to RBHS compliance standards as they appear in RBHS Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Three (3) years of prior general office billing experience in a dental office setting, two (2) years of which shall have been included billing and medical insurance activities.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficient in dental software systems.
  • Knowledge in accessing and retrieving information from a computer database.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with AxiUm Dental Management Software would be a plus.

  • Overtime required during peak periods that can include the month-end close cycle and budget periods.
