We are currently seeking a “Billing Coordinator” who will provide support to the Equine Park, the Wildlife Health Clinic and all the Cornell University Hospital for Animals.  To be successful in this position, applicants should genuinely care about people and animals, project a positive and professional image always and demonstrate excellent customer service skills. 

What you will do:

Responsibilities will include, but not limited to,

  • Recording and auditing daily charges, and prepare invoices for discharge;

  • Contact clients with outstanding balances and assist with any financial concerns, referring to Senior Manager as appropriate;

  • Ensure appropriate estimates/deposits have been received and clients have been informed of the expectations of hospital payment policies;

  • Cross-train with all Client Services areas of the CUHA, and provide back-up support, as needed.

  • Coordinate and manage the pickup and delivery with the Faithful Companions Crematorium to ensure accuracy and efficiency of returning of pet’s ashes with owner.

The CUHA provides 24-hour care for pets 365 days of the year. The schedule for this position requires flexibility to ensure that adequate patient care and service needs are provided without interruption or exception. The primary schedule will be Monday, Thursday, Friday 8am-5pm, Saturday 6:30am – 1pm & Sunday 6:30am-3:00pm.  Hours are subject to change depending on the business needs of the office and will require some holidays.

Schedule will include University and calendar holiday coverage to meet business needs.  If business needs change, a position/individual may be realigned within the CUHA to a different shift or schedule. 

What are the qualifications?

  • High School Diploma with 2-4 years demonstrated customer service experience, preferably in retail sales, banking, or reception/clerical work or equivalent combination or education and experience

  • Ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships including communicating with staff, students, technicians, clinicians, and our clients, in a professional manner at all times.

  • Must work collaboratively in a fast-paced, often challenging environment while demonstrating a high level of initiative, paying close attention to detail.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize are essential.

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills, demonstrating compassion and sound judgment during difficult situations.

  • Must have basic knowledge of MS Office software and have the willingness to learn new systems as necessary to carry out the job responsibilities.

  • Must have ability to independently lift up to 30 lbs. with periodic pushing & pulling involvement.

Preferred Qualifications:

  •  Previous experience in a medical or veterinary office preferred.

  •  Knowledge of medical terminology, veterinary medicine, medical records, and billing systems.
