The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
 

Position Summary

The Billing Compliance Manager is responsible to oversee the Department???s faculty practice billing compliance review functions.  This position reports to the Director of Compliance and also has a dual reporting relationship to the University Office of Billing Compliance. 


Responsibilities

  • Assess documentation supporting medical services for appropriate billing and coding of the reported services, and regularly communicate the assessment results and make recommendations and/or develop educational program for improvements with corresponding billing managers and physicians.
  • Assess and monitor CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) and ICD (International Classification of Diseases) coding
  • Implement and apply Columbia University compliance guidelines, regulations and policies within the Department, and assist the Departmental Administrator with dissemination of the billing policy updates related to changes implemented by CMS and other regulatory agencies.
  • Submit to the University Office of Billing Compliance a monthly compliance log, and maintain regular communication with the University Office of Billing Compliance for ongoing compliance assessments
  • Oversee, coordinate and monitor quality of the pre- and post- billing reviews
  • Manage the billing compliance staff???s functions
  • Maintain compliance log, prepare monthly billing compliance reports and present ongoing improvements and recommendations for improvements to the Departmental Administrator and other senior managers as appropriate
  • Establish efficient work flow processes for the compliance review activities
  • Collaborate with the Department???s Director of Revenue Cycle with review and potential process engineering related to the faculty practice operations and better coding compliance opportunities.
  • Performs and manages Pre-bill review coding for the Allen Pavilion
  • Oversees Resident Quality Assurance program and provides all incoming residents with a seminar on documenting in the patient record

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor???s degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus 4 year of related experience

  • Certification as a Professional Coder.

  • Excellent working knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, medical terminology and professional fee billing. 

  • Knowledge of EPIC billing system. 

  • Working proficiency with Microsoft office products. 

  • Ability to develop working relationship with physicians and billing managers.
