The Information Management (IM) division at the University of Washington (UW) provides consistent and reliable architectures, guidelines, standards, tools, and services for data analysis, design, modeling, management, delivery, and integration of institutional data. The Enterprise Reporting and Analytics (ERA) group within IM manages, develops, and maintains solutions that provide information for decision-making through central business intelligence products and tools.

The Business Intelligence Engineer (BI Engineer) is responsible for producing BI solutions. This includes implementing reports, dashboards, cubes, and other analytics to facilitate strategic and operational decision-making at UW. The position is responsible for executing the BI strategy, providing guidance to a community of BI engineers, and producing and maintaining BI deliverables. The position is part of the Business Intelligence Team, which oversees delivering BI solutions and quality assurance.

The BI Engineer is a senior data warehouse professional experienced in data warehouse reporting and analysis, institutional research data and data mining activities and concerns, and an expert in the tools supporting these activities e.g., Microsoft BI tools, Tableau. The position requires depth of knowledge in enterprise data management methods, expertise in dimensional / star schema design, and the data warehouse software development lifecycle. The incumbent must understand organizational business objectives and be able to conceptualize, document, implement, and communicate the solutions for advanced analytical and operational activities.
