Job Description Summary:
The Benefits Coordinator will assist the benefits team in the overall administration of total rewards strategies and methodologies related to KUMC employee benefits. This position involves extensive communication and interaction with faculty, students and staff. The Benefits Coordinator will be responsible for supporting and assisting the Office of Human Resources in their efforts to promote a positive work environment while providing excellent customer service.
Job Description:

Provide excellent customer service to all employees; be proactive in anticipating needs, go beyond expectations and deliver excellent results. Respond to questions/inquiries in a timely, appropriate manner.
Manage intake items and requests for benefit services. Address benefit-related questions by providing appropriate and timely responses.
Assist in the administration and communication of benefit policies and practices. Proactively communicate benefit status changes to employees.
Assist in the planning, coordination and implementation of open enrollment and other educational events/workshops for faculty and staff. Distribute benefit information/presentation materials and perform other functions as needed. Prepare facility work orders and schedule rooms as necessary.
Serve as the primary contact for new hire benefit correspondence; promptly responding or disseminating information to the appropriate team member. Verify and process benefit elections; review status of new hires and send reminders of deadlines.
Responsible for the distributing verification of prior retirement contribution forms and investment agreement forms. Process data for retirement investment agreements for both the mandatory and voluntary plans.
Support the FMLA, Workers’ Compensation and leaves of absence processes by performing assigned tasks under the guidance of the Benefits Manager – Total Rewards.
Process and manage benefit information (i.e.
updates) in the appropriate HR system(s) of record. Routinely monitor the MAP portal dashboard so that it is current and up to date.
Enter into HR system(s) of record, all new hire retirement and life insurance elections.
Enter new KPERS retirement enrollments through the KPERS portal, as well as verify and submit adjustments.
Perform updates to offboarding/retirement documents such as spreadsheets and similar records. Prepare retirement certificates and order retirement gifts.
Assist with website updates/upgrades in terms of benefit-related content.
Active participant and supporter of the Benefits Office – Total Rewards events, culture and initiatives.
Other duties as assigned.
** Required Qualifications **
Associate Degree in Human Resources, Business or a closely related field. Experience in performing the work described herein may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Excellent customer service skills. Ability to understand and provide effective communication of benefit plan and information to customers. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with employees at all organizational levels and with individuals and groups with culturally diverse backgrounds.
Demonstrated capability to make effective use of information technology applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, query, workflow, presentation and other appropriate software to include data entry and updates online.
** Preferred Qualifications **
Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, business or a closely related field.
Two years of relevant benefit experience.
Formal training or certification in customer service.
HR certification in benefits (CBP) is desirable.
