Position Summary | The Department of Neurology at University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, School of Medicine is seeking a Behavioral Neurologist on the clinical track (fixed-term), to join our expanding Cognitive and Behavioral Neurology Division. The position is open rank depending on experience and eligibility. This academic appointment offers an opportunity to provide clinical care in a cutting-edge, multi-disciplinary environment while also contributing to human participant research activities. There is opportunity to teach residents, fellows, and medical students the principles of cognitive and behavioral neurology. If desired, the candidate can develop and lead a Behavioral Neurology and Neuropsychiatry (BNNP) fellowship. We strongly encourage independent interests within the broad umbrella of Cognitive Behavioral Neurology, and the pursuit of multi-disciplinary collaborations and care. Full-time outpatient clinical work at UNC is only 4 days per week, with an opportunity to take on research or administrative work to further reduce that time. Primary clinical effort will be outpatient, within the UNC Memory Disorders Clinic. Our expanding Division includes three neurologists, two geriatric psychiatrists, two neuropsychologists, and two nurse practitioners, plus dedicated nursing, psychometry and caregiver support personnel. Our clinic is housed in a beautiful new building off-campus with easy parking and ready access to both downtown Chapel Hill and nearby Durham. We offer a wealth of research opportunities, and strongly encourage research pursuits. The Cognitive Division supports three NIH-sponsored research consortia: the Duke-UNC Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, for which our Dept. Chair is the Multi-PI, the Dementia with Lewy bodies Consortium and the Longitudinal Frontotemporal Dementia (ALL-FTD) Program, for both of which the site PI is the Chief of the Division. We are also designated a Research Center of Excellence by the Lewy Body Dementia Association. An expanding portfolio of clinical trial opportunities in Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders, several collaborations with a robust and research-intensive Division of Geriatrics, and access to state-of-the-art neuroimaging facilities, including a 7T MRI scanner and hybrid PET-MRI scanner are other potential research avenues. Finally, our participation in the state-supported North Carolina Brain Health Registry offers a state-wide research network ready-made for potential collaboration. |
