Food Science and Technology is seeking a Beaver Classic Retail Manager. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position.

The Beaver Classic Retail Manager (BCRM) will manage Beaver Classic Retail Operations.
Beaver Classic is the College of Agricultural Sciences' (CAS) premiere experiential learning program which trains students through hands-on experiences in cheese, dairy, meat processing, honey harvesting, retail sales, and marketing. Student-made products are sold in the food science food truck, wholesale, and in food service. Starting summer of 2025, a Beaver Classic deli will open in the newly renovated Withycombe Hall. Beaver Classic provides students with excellent paid experience, while also helping students build resume experience. The goal for Beaver Classic is that all students in CAS will have an opportunity to participate as product categories grow.
The BCRM position is responsible for the retail operations of the Withycombe Store (starting 2025) and the Food Truck at Oregon State University.
The BCRM works with the dairy plant manager, Clark Meat Lab manager, and other faculty to ensure the timely delivery of student-made products.
The BCRM works with the Business and Student Development Manager to supervise students and develop products sold in the retail store, food truck, farmers market, on-campus sales, and via wholesale partners. Product sales also take place at special events like OSU football games, and by filling online orders. Some work requires irregular hours. The BCRM works with the Business and Student Development Manager to ensure the profitability of the Beaver Classic experiential learning program and increase the visibility of food truck on campus and in the community to promote Beaver Classic products and increase sales and the variety of products.

Minimum Qualifications (Staff) / Guidelines (Faculty):

Typically requires Bachelor's degree in field related to research focus or equivalent combination of experience. Certification and licensure may be required.

Requirements :


Associate degree in food service management, nutritional care, or related field AND four years of food service supervisory experience; OR a bachelor's degree with a major course work in restaurant or hotel management or a closely related field and one year of food service supervisory experience.
Demonstrated experience in food safety including microbial and allergen controls.
Experience managing budgets, calculating Cost of Goods Sold (COGS), and profit and loss accounting.
Experience supervising and mentoring entry-level employees and/or students.
Ability to work irregular hours including evenings and weekends, including communication outside of working hours. For example, may include Saturday Farmers Market, and College of Agricultural Sciences special events.
Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs, and push/pull items weighing 50-100 lbs.
Must acquire a Oregon Food Handler's license within 15 days of hire, and maintain license by renewing every 3 years.

This position requires driving a food truck (university vehicle) on behalf of the University; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Motor Vehicle History Check, possess and maintain a current, valid Oregon Drivers License, be determined to be position qualified and self report convictions as per University Policy 05-030 et seq.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OAR 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 24 months.

Work environment includes working in various environments including office, food truck in outdoor environment for events, retail store, storage and freezer or refrigerated areas, and other environments as needed. Position requires working some irregular hours including evenings and weekends. Position requires travel to event locations with food truck or other vehicle. Events venues include on and off campus college or university events, farmers markets, festivals/fairs, and others. Position will lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs, push/pull items weighing 50-100 lbs, will require climbing stairs and repetitive motions.

Additional Salary Information: $44,496 - $75,516
