Beautician - Per Diem

 

 Duties of a Beautician may include the following but are not limited to:

 


  • Greets and conducts Residents to appropriate area for services.

  • Performs the requested actions on the Residents hair, including washing, rinsing, cutting and trimming as conforming to general standards and to Resident request.

  • May also set, curl, color and permanent wave Residents hair as requested, conforming to general standards of safety and proper use of chemicals involved in the process(es).

  • Neatly style hair after services are completed, according to common standards and Resident request.

  • May provide advice to Residents in relation to everyday and special care and styling of hair.

  • Assist Resident in appearance after services are performed, including brushing away stray hairs from clothing.

  • Act in a personable manner and conducts conversation in order to make the Resident feel at ease while receiving beautician services.

  • Observe Resident behavior in the barber area, and may report observed behaviors to clinical staff, if appropriate.

  • Maintains the work area in a hygienic and orderly fashion, including the stacking of shelves, cleanliness of work surfaces and chairs and regular sweeping of floor.

  • Conducts inventory, orders supplies as needed and re-stocks supplies to maintain adequate levels for the beautician area to function.

  • Keep records of services performed.

  • May perform other requested beauty services, such a perform facial treatments involving lotions and masks, apply cosmetics to face, manicure and polish nails, and instruct Residents in matters relating to facial and nail cosmetics.

Working Conditions:

Working conditions may involve exposure to infectious disease, blood, body fluids and/or tissue as well as other upleasant elements such as accidents, injuries and illness. May be exposed to and be required to handle varying unpredictable, emergency and crisis situations. Occasionally subjected to irregular hours and pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries, as well as weather related situations.

 

Other Duties: Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:


  • Working knowledge of haircutting and hairdressing techniques.

  • Working knowledge of proper sanitary beauty parlor procedures.

  • Working knowledge of the use and repair of tools and equipment used in the beauty parlor trade.

  • Ability to stand on feet for a long period of time.

  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing for the purpose of exchanging information and making people feel at ease.

  • Ability to establish rapport with clientele to make them feel at ease.

  • Ability to coordinate eye, hand and finger movement.

 

Required Qualifications:

NYS License. Completion of either a course in a standard beauty culture school or an apprenticeship in the beauty culture trade.

 

Posting Overview:  This position will remain posted until filled or for a maximum of 90 days. An initial review of all applicants will occur two weeks from the posting date. Special Notes:

The Long Island State Veterans Home is a tobacco-free environment. Tobacco products are strictly prohibited anywhere on our 25-acre campus, including parking lots and outdoor areas on the premises. 

This position may require the wearing of respiratory protection, which may prohibit the wearing of facial hair. 

Essential Position:  This position has been designated as an essential position based on the duties of the job and the functions performed.  This means that when the Long Island State Veterans Home is faced with an emergency, employees in such positions are required to remain at their work location or to report to work.

The LISVH is a 24/7 skilled nursing facility. As such, all positions are subject to changes in pass days and shifts as necessary to meet the operating needs of the facility.

The use of Vacation or Personal Leave accruals during the first 6 months of employment will not be authorized unless prior approval has been granted by Human Resources.

Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements:

  • Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from the Long Island State Veterans Home Employee Health Department.
  • Meet regulatory requirements for pre-employment screening.
  • Submit three (3) written references.
  • Provide a copy of the required license(s)/certificate(s).
