Job/Department Summary:

Under general direction of the Basic Needs Director the Basic Needs Case Manager is a position within Basic Needs, in the Division of Student Affairs. The case manager works with students that are experiencing low food and housing security and the complex student situations that surround the lack of basic needs and poverty. Examples of student poverty include, but are not limited to, basic needs insecurity, malnutrition, homelessness, displacement, student behavioral conflicts, physical and mental health issues, high risk behaviors and escalating financial crisis, all primary barriers to academic retention and success.
This position is highly collaborative and plays an active role in non-clinical student case management, developing and implementing a formal case management system, state and federal grant distribution, data collection and development of future programming and funding sources. This position also oversees the development and distribution of a $2.61 million College-Focused Rapid Re-housing Grant administered through the Chancellors office to address student homelessness. This position supports students who are experiencing poverty or displacement and connects them to the appropriate basic needs service.
The Basic Needs Case Manager actively engages students through the Hungry Wildcat Food Pantry and oversee the online application for assistance on a daily basis to establish a working caseload. The case manager does not provide therapy; rather, the case manager will help provide food and housing services and facilitate a student's access to, and appropriate utilization of, University and/or community services while coaching students toward life balanced stability and self-sufficiency. This position reports directly to the Basic Needs Administrator and works collaboratively with other staff members, as well as other on- and off-campus colleagues and partners, including the supervision of contracted off-campus community housing case managers. The Basic Needs Case Manager actively oversee community housing and social service agency relations in support students with low food and housing security, many coming from traditionally underserved populations. This position supervises student staff and provides support with limited supervision.

Required Education and Experience:

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field.
AND
Three years of full-time professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth.

*A Master’s degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.
Additional specialized experience which demonstrates the applicant has successfully applied the knowledge and abilities of a Student Services professional may also be substituted for required education on a year-for year basis.

Preferences:

Preference may be given to applicants with the following as they may be considered specialized skills: 

  • Bilingual.
  • Master’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, applied behavioral science, or related field. 5 Years of experience may substitute for master’s degree.
  • Demonstrated skills in any number of student support areas, such as but not limited to: advising and counseling work, public health outreach, student services, community housing, food insecurity, and/or homelessness.
  • Professional presence and proven track record in the development of student services, community partnerships, grant and philanthropic development.
  • Familiarity with student intake and referral processes and typical campus and community resources.
  • Working knowledge of public health systems, student basic needs best practices and mental health protocols.
  • Experience providing consultation to university faculty, staff, and administration.
  • Experience working with applicable data systems and ability to facilitate research.
  • Grant management and data tracking processes.
  • Case management experience.

Time Base: Full-time

Pay Plan: 12/12

Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 8:00am-5:00pm, Summer: Mon-Thurs 7:00am-5:30pm. 

CSU Classification Salary Range:  $60,300 - $85,908 per year.
