The Kinnebrew Lab in the Department of Biochemistry is seeking a Ph.D.-level, Basic Life Science Research Scientist with a passion for science and learning. This position is for a 1 year fixed-term, with a possibility of renewal. We are interested in discovering how cells sense and maintain a proper balance of lipids in their membrane bilayers. Membrane organization is critical for receptor signaling and imbalances are linked to diverse pathologies ranging from diabetes to cancer.

This position offers an excellent opportunity to participate in exciting and fast-paced research. The successful candidate will learn a variety of laboratory skills, including genome editing, protein biochemistry, and data analysis. Ideal candidates demonstrate deep intellectual curiosity, have strong organizational and communication skills, cherish teamwork, and desire to strive for excellence. Previous experience in molecular biology research is preferred.

This position offers the opportunity to work closely with the PI in an interactive, supportive, and inclusive lab environment. You will learn diverse biochemical and cell-biological techniques such as genome-wide screening, protein purification, molecular cloning and microscopy. Finally, you will have the opportunity to develop scientific communication skills and to contribute to high-impact publications.

This position will serve as the lab manager for a small but highly interactive and passionate group. Your main goal will be to plan and execute experiments, as well as help with common lab goals such as tissue culture cell line maintenance. You will also generate and update protocols, keep detailed lab records, and help maintain lab organization and inventory.

Duties include:

Plan, prepare, and maintain experimental pipelines (e.g. maintenance and seeding of cells in cell culture).

Execute experiments involving cell biology and molecular biology techniques (e.g. Western blotting, microscopy, molecular cloning and PCRs).

Maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes.

Data analysis and management.

Review literature to remain current with new procedures and apply to research.

Prepare data and figures needed for publications.

Maintain lab inventories, purchases and receiving of lab stock and databases.

Training of new students/lab members.
