By offering high-impact, academic and extracurricular programs that center on the unique and yet varied experiences of students of African descent, BASE equips students with the knowledge, resources, skills and support necessary to turn their dreams into reality.
Position Overview:
The Black Achievement Success Engagement (BASE) Initiative is seeking a creative, motivated, and team-oriented student to serve as a BASE Student Intern. The BASE Student Intern will be tasked with supporting components of BASE, which include the: Black Resource Center, Black Scholars Program, and Marshall-Riley Learning-Learning community. Additionally, the BASE Intern will serve as a campus-wide student representative, establishing relationships with USF recognized clubs and organizations, USF Student Life departments, and the Black-Identified students populations to promote the relative aspects of the BASE Initiative.

Full Job Description:

Primary Responsibilities 

  • Serve as a campus-wide student representative for the BASE Initiative. 

  • Organize, develop and promote BRC events, programs, and services to the wider USF Community.

  • Design BASE digital and print materials. 

  • Represent BASE at prospective and current student signature events, including but not limited to: Black Student Orientation, Day of the Dons, Black Resource Fair, Destination USF, BRC tabling events, etc.  

  • Promote Black Resource Center programs and workshops to Black-Identified students. 

  • Bring awareness to rising sophomores on the opportunity to join the Marshall-Riley Living-Learning Community. 

  • Refer current students with campus and BASE resources as needed. 

  • Attend BASE staff meetings and training as advised by BASE professional staff. 

  • Track daily attendance while on shift at the BRC. 

  • Manage BASE Social Media channels. Create and publish content that enhances affinity for BASE, promote BASE components, share programs’ successes, and encourages program engagement/ involvement.

  • Perform administrative related duties including data entry, running errands, maintaining calendars, and responding to general inquiries

  • Assist with other projects and tasks as assigned


 

Qualifications

  •  Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

  • Computer skills including MS Word and MS Excel required; familiarity with Google applications, Canva applications, Internet research, OrgSync, and other online tools preferred

  • Familiarity with social media platforms such as Instagram 

  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines

  • Positive attitude, friendly, professional, and excellent customer service skills

  • Reliable, good follow-through

  • Independent self-starter, able to take initiative

  • Understanding of leadership and business principles and/or desire to learn

  • Familiarity with SLE/ASUSF programs and responsibilities associated with positions within

  • Commitment to work in a culturally diverse environment and to contribute to the mission and goals of BASE and the University

  • Good disciplinary and academic standing at USF

  • Work-Study preferred
