Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Department of Music at UNC-Chapel Hill offers a BM and BA in Music Performance and an MA and Ph.D. in Musicology for undergraduate and graduate students. Our mission is to educate performance and musicology majors and to provide general music courses for non-major students. We serve the public by presenting performances by students, faculty, and guest artists. We offer over one hundred concerts and recitals each year. We have a newly-renovated, state-of-the-art auditorium which includes recording (audio and video) as well as an improved lighting and sound system. We have a total of 60 full- and part-time faculty who teach approximately 2500 students during the academic year and another 200 during Summer School. Through our teaching, research, and creativity we share music’s multiplicity of forms and meanings, connecting the study of music to the larger understanding of societies, and affirming music’s importance as an expression of humanity.
Position Summary
The candidate in this position will provide assistance with the administration of the UNC Bands program and UNC Department of Music facilities management. Duties to be performed include but are not limited to: managing the database of band student members, student listserv, and social media presence; preparing music for concert ensembles; assisting with band travel arrangements; coordinating with vendors to order meals and merchandise; band events management; reconciling credit card charges; managing and assigning instrument lockers; managing facilities access through distribution and collection of keys, requesting OneCard access to buildings and practice spaces, inputting classroom schedules into the department Google calendar; organizing surplus materials pick up; submitting facility repair requests; and standard administrative tasks such as answering phones, making copies and organizing lists.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Word processing, database management, experience with Microsoft Excel, experience with Google Workspace and excellent communication skills are required.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Administrative experience preferred. College band experience preferred.
Special Physical/Mental Requirements
Must have the ability to lift 50 lbs and have a current/active driver’s license.
