Title AY24-25 Graduate Assistant - Engagement Advisor for Fraternity & Sorority Life
Position Description
The Graduate Assistant (GA) will work 20 hours per week and receive up to 24 credits of tuition and student fee waivers: 9 for fall, 9 for spring and 6 for summer.
Overview
The Center for Student Engagement (CSE) seeks a Graduate Assistant to support all aspiring and established student organizations, specifically those categorized as Fraternity and Sorority Life. This Graduate Assistant position supports the College of Graduate Studies by ensuring graduate students will have relevant work experience that will be critical to their post graduate careers, such as project management, collaboration, the opportunity to gain full advisory experience with student organizations, and to serve as a key staff member of a student-centered environment. In addition, the Graduate Assistant will contribute to the impact CSE continues to have on the retention of undergraduate students at Bridgewater State University through the direct interactions with said students, and by the very nature of their work.
Responsibilities
  • Advise fraternity/sorority leaders working with the student organization event process

  • Attend and advise the Interfraternity Council, Panhellenic Association and National Pan-Hellenic Council, FSL community events and programs, Order of Omega Honor Society, and Fraternity and Sorority Life Council executive board

  • Advise the planning of Greek Week programs during the spring semester

  • Assist with the Panhellenic Association and Interfraternity Council Recruitment processes

  • Facilitate the Greek Leadership and Development program

  • Co-facilitate the FSL 101 Hazing Prevention workshops

  • Coordinate the Fraternity & Sorority Life Award program

  • Assist with CSE related trainings, workshops, and retreats for clubs, organizations, and fraternities/sororities

  • Monitor and approve student organization and fraternity/sorority events on Campus Groups platform

  • Educate and enforce University/CSE policies/procedures in relation to student organization leaders

  • Provide day of event support for events such as The Crimson Experience, Homecoming, Admitted Student Days, and other Programs and Events throughout the academic year when not conflicting with class schedule, including nights and weekends.

  • Serve as a role model for students.

  • Other programmatic duties and special projects as they arise during the academic year to assist with furthering the mission of the department.
Preferred Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Ability to advise student leaders/groups
  • Ability to work independently
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook and Teams
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Adaptability and ability to work in an ever-changing environment

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous involvement with student organizations, orientation programs, or event planning in a college setting
  • Understands and has experience with social Fraternity & Sorority Life organizations and governing councils
  • Awareness of the current issues facing Fraternity & Sorority Life nationwide
  • Working knowledge of the National Panhellenic Conference Manual of Information, Unanimous Agreements, and Release Figures Method
  • Previous experience with an online student organization management platform (CampusGroups, CampusLabs, etc.)
  • Experience in leading, advising, and/or supervising students
  • Enrollment in the Higher Education Counseling Master’s Program
Physical Demands
Ability to lift and carry 30 pounds.
