Department Purpose

Audit and Management Advisory Services (AMAS) supports the mission of UC Davis and the University of California by partnering with management to provide them with independent and objective assurance and consulting services designed to add value and improve operations. AMAS performs audits, investigations and management studies that encompass financial and operational reviews of complex and diverse areas at UCD having the broadest impact on the Campus, Medical Center and university policies, procedures and operations.

Job Summary

Under the direction of management, performs audits, advisory service projects, and investigations covering financial, operational, and compliance areas across UC Davis and UC Davis Health Performs engagements in accordance with the Standards for Professional Practice of Internal Auditing and the Code of Ethics of the Institute of Internal Auditors. Assesses organizational and operational risks; designs and executes work programs; prepares work papers; maintains communication with operating staff and management; develops recommendations; drafts reports to management; performs post-engagement work as necessary to ensure that corrective actions are implemented. Promotes concepts of internal control to assist University personnel in the discharge of their duties.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. Smoking, the use of smokeless tobacco products, and the use of unregulated nicotine products (e-cigarettes) will be strictly prohibited on any UC Davis owned or leased property, indoors and outdoors, including parking lots and residential space.

  • AMAS is a remote office, and most staff work from home or another secure location. A University- owned laptop and monitors are provided. Staff may work outside the state of California as long as they are able to perform their duties on Pacific Standard Time (PST). Shared workstations in Davis and Sacramento are available to staff who prefer to work in-office regularly or on occasion.

 

  • AMAS staff work flexible schedules. Staff are generally expected to be accessible during the core business hours of 9am to 4pm PST, Monday through Friday. Modified schedules are approved for fully-performing staff who wish to start the day earlier, end the day later, and/or take additional or extended breaks mid-day. Staff have the option to work 9/80 or 4/10 flex schedules.

 

  • Staff in AMAS comply with the Internal Audit Code of Ethics.

 

  • Staff must be able to travel to Sacramento, Davis, or other locations on occasion to perform engagements or attend training sessions.

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Required:

 

Minimum Education/Experience

  • BS or BA Degree (or equivalent experience, such as four years’ experience with increasing responsibility in the field of auditing, compliance, or information technology).

 

  • Two years of full-time experience applying theories and principles related to internal auditing, accounting, compliance, law, healthcare administration, research administration, information systems, and/or information security.

 

  • Experience assessing risk within and at the intersections of differing technical subjects and/or business processes.

 

  • Experience planning and executing projects.

 

  • Experience writing, presenting, and defending informational and persuasive reports.

 

  • Experience solving problems with existing resources.

 

  • Experience using oral and written communication skills to interact with management and leadership.

 

Preferred:

Additional Preferred License/Certification

  • Professional certification such as Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), or Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), etc.

 

Preferred Education/Experience

  • Masters, MBA, or JD degree.

 

  • Experience performing internal audits and advisory services.

 

  • Experience or demonstrated interest in the IT industry.
