UW MEDICAL CENTER - Otolaryngology/Head/Neck Surgery has an outstanding opportunity for a AUDIOLOGY ASSISTANT.

WORK SCHEDULE
- FULL-TIME; 40 hours per week
- Day Shift

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
Performs a broad range of tasks in support of the operation of the Audiology Program, to include administrative and clinical functions. The position also provides direct patient care within a defined scope and under the supervision of a licensed audiologist.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Clerical Duties
Performs clerical/clinical duties related to preparation and management of patient appointments in the audiology program:
• Monitors, revises, and troubleshoots provider daily schedules to maximize patient appointment access
• Schedules / reschedules patient appointments; provides patient reminders for specific populations
• Registers, verifies insurance, and obtains benefit information for hearing related services and products.
• Reviews, reports, and responds to patient communications through various means (phone, email, EMR applications)

Patient Care
Provides direct assistive patient care within designated scope during and after appointments:
• Prepares rooms for procedures and services to be performed; assures supplies specific to visit are set up according to protocol; may perform, earmold impressions.
• Greets, rooms, and prepares patients for scheduled diagnostic or therapeutic interventions.
• Performs non-diagnostic Otoscopy
• Documents medical history and performs chart review; assists patients completing questionnaire medical forms; distributes and facilitates completion of post treatment efficacy surveys
• Provides education and instructions for routine patient performed tasks for amplification devices and auditory implants; demonstrates assistive listening and alerting devices.
• Assists audiologists performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

Workflow Support
Performs technical tasks supporting daily operations and increased efficiency of program and audiology providers:
• Performs safety /maintenance checks of supplies and audiologic equipment.
• Performs basic visual check and if necessary, cleans hearing aids, implants, and other amplification devices; troubleshoots issues and may perform minor adjustments/repairs to hearing aids, earmolds, etc., as directed by audiologist or established protocol
• Performs electroacoustic analysis of hearing aids and other amplification devices.

Audiology Record Maintenance
Maintains required documents and records pertaining to audiology programs:
• Manages orders for devices and repairs; maintains records re product status (new/repair/return/etc.)
• Manages packaging, shipping, and receipt of earmolds, new/replacement/return amplification devices
• Maintains business charts specific to type of technology for manufacturer/product documents, invoices, device related actions (orders, etc.), or to meet regulatory/compliance requirements.

General Duties
Maintains environment for delivery of safe and effective clinical care:
• Maintains inventory of daily supplies for equipment, examinations, earmold impressions, etc.
• Orders and restocks routine and ad hoc supplies in rooms and audiometric sound booths, includes battery management.
• Adheres to Infection Prevention polices to clean instrumentation, equipment, rooms, and patient devices
• Maintains clean, disinfected, and sterilized (if appropriate) instrumentation, work surfaces, waiting areas
• Participates in departmental and organizational QA initiatives for patient safety, etc. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- High School graduation or equivalent AND one year of experience in a health care setting
AND
- Completion of audiology technical training program within six months of employment
OR
- Equivalent education/experience.
