AUDIO VISUAL DIRECTOR
The Department of Theatre at Coastal Carolina University, accredited by NAST (National Association of Schools of Theatre), invites applications for Audio Visual Director. This is a 12-month, full-time, classified staff position to begin as soon as possible and no later than August 1, 2024. The Department offers B.F.A. degrees with concentrations in Acting, Musical Theatre, Physical Theatre, and Theatre Design and Production, as well as a B.A. degree in Theatre. The CCU Theatre Department serves over 150 majors and is often ranked as one of the nation’s top undergraduate Theatre programs. Located in Conway, South Carolina, just 9 miles from the Atlantic coastal resort city of Myrtle Beach, this highly collaborative and rigorous department maintains an ambitious production season, in addition to new works and staged readings to connect students with working professionals
Duties include, but are not limited to the following: the Audio Visual Director is an essential position which provides oversight of the technical areas of theatre production related to lighting, sound, projections, and special effects in the CCU Department of Theatre, including managing equipment inventory, contributing pre-production work as needed, creating working drawings, purchasing materials and equipment, supervising equipment preparation and repair, leading load-in and strikes of all assigned events, preparing work schedules, supervising student workers, processing financial reports, and running the day-to-day operation and maintenance of all audio visual areas in the CCU Department of Theatre. The Audio Visual Director supports the learning of students enrolled in technical theatre courses (including Introduction to Theatre Technology) and supervises open lab hours and work calls with technical theatre students and student shop workers. In some semesters, the Audio Visual Director may be asked to teach classes within their discipline, including Introduction to Stage Technology and Sound Design. Additional duties may be assigned, as necessary.
Requirements: A bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of professional experience in technical theatre is required. An MFA in Sound Design, Lighting Design, Technical Theatre, or other related area and experience in academia is preferred. Experience as a master/lead electrician, audio engineer, sound designer, projections operator, and/or special effects coordinator for theatrical productions, being well-versed with Vectorworks, QLab, and/or Watchout, and experience with audio visual studio supervision are all preferred. A valid driver’s license and the ability to drive a 26’ truck is required.

Production Manager III (CG25/61122892/ FTE-S010011), full-time position with benefits. SC State Pay Band: 06. Salary range: $45,530.00 (minimum) – $64,885.00 (midpoint). Normal work hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Must be flexible to meet the special scheduling needs of the university.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree. Three (3) years of professional experience in technical theatre.
Preferred Qualifications
MFA in Sound Design, Lighting Design, Technical Theatre, or other related area. Experience in academia is a plus. It is preferred that the employee in this position has experience as a master/lead electrician, audio engineer, sound designer, projections operator, and/or special effects coordinator for theatrical productions, is well-versed with Vectorworks, QLab, and/or Watchout, and has experience with audio visual studio supervision.
Licensure and/or Certification
A valid driver’s license and the ability to drive a 26’ truck are required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
A working knowledge of and experience with other areas of theatrical design and production (properties, sets, costumes, etc.) is necessary in order to be an effective collaborator. An understanding of academic theatre and a strong ability to collaborate is essential.
