The Hoover Institution at Stanford University is seeking qualified candidates for the full-time position of Audio/Video Editing Specialist for the Strategic Communications & Marketing team. The ideal candidate will be skilled in all aspects of audio and video production in support of the productions at Hoover (i.e. podcasts, video series, post-event distribution, etc.) This includes a proficiency in the use of audio and video editing tools, recording software or sites, mics and related hardware, and post-production. JOB PURPOSE:

Under general direction, responsible and accountable for the successful editing and production of the audio podcasts and video programs created and produced at the Hoover Institution using the necessary platforms to create final products for distribution on various institutional channels.  Interface with internal and external clients for audio/video editing and production needs.

CORE DUTIES:

  • Prepare and produce digital media, e.g. audio and video to create final products for distribution on various institutional channels both internal and external audiences.
  • Collaborate with marketing team to determine project goals and plan production.
  • Collaborate with IT to diagnose and resolve digital media system problems. May also perform various hardware, software, peripheral, and networking technical assistance.
  • Set up, operate and troubleshoot on a variety of equipment including but not limited to; laptops, video cameras, video projection, video conferencing, still photography, digitalization, analog and digital audio recording.
  • Maintain and ensure proper operation of all equipment and perform repairs and cleaning of digital media equipment.
  • May manage logistics, video shooting, music and sound effect licensing, computer graphics, animation, digital effect creation, editing and tape duplication, such as:
    • Assemble raw footage and transfer or upload to a computer.
    • Add sound to enhance footage, which may include selecting music and voice-overs.
    • Add graphics to enhance footage.
    • Digitally splice film and video and synchronize them into one rough cut file.
    • Improve and correct lighting, coloring and faulty footage.
  • May act as liaison with vendors ensuring scheduling, costs and requirements are met.

ADDITIONAL CORE DUTIES*:

  • Perform quick turnaround of video footage from on-site and virtual lectures for distribution via social media and distribution platforms.
  • Work closely with the marketing team and producers to present a final product that matches their vision.
  • Assist with the downloading/uploading of files for Hoover audiences.
  • Assist with management of Hoover’s audio and video distribution channels (ex: YouTube, Podbean, etc.)
  • Support and back-up production team for various video products and podcasts.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree and two years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience required, three years’ experience preferred.

Relevant experience may include:

  • Technical experience using audio recording platforms, editing software, and post-production tools.
  • Experience with production techniques including compression from hi-resolution files to compressed versions for social media.
  • Experience sourcing music, sound effects, stock photos and stock videos from various online libraries.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated technical experience using digital media equipment, video creation, editing software, and/or digital media control software.
  • Knowledge in production techniques including videography, compression and file delivery.
  • Experience with live streaming events.
  • Knowledge of camera, lighting, sound and editing.
  • Understanding of online video environment and online distribution.
  • Ability to adapt equipment setup and provide alternative setup or workarounds if necessary.
  • Good interpersonal skills, judgment, and diplomacy required to interact effectively with and provide customer service to a broad audience.
  • Ability to work independently as well as effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Effective time management skills.

Desired/Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Zoom and how to record Zoom meetings at the highest quality as well as how to record audio at the highest quality.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, Garage Band, Audition, Squadcast and Photoshop.
  • Basic understanding of graphic design and implementing graphics into post-production content.
  • Knowledge of various video and audio editing tools as well as a willingness to learn new tools and improve final products as well as processes.

Certifications and Licenses:

  • Valid California Non-commercial Driver's License.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks
  • Frequently stand/walk, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, and reach/work above shoulders.
  • Occasionally sit, twist/bend/stoop/squat.
  • Visual acuity including color vision.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a California Non-commercial Class license.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Occasionally work on weekends, evenings, holidays, and flexible shifts.
