Job Description:

Boston Conservatory at Berklee is looking for an Audio Specialist to maximize the educational value of Conservatory performances and events through exceptional audio production. This motivated and creative specialist will work within Performance Technology in the Performance Services Department, often leading teams of student workers in audio production and recording. This creative and responsible technician will focus on audio within Performance Technology’s overall production of audio, video, and livestream services for the Conservatory.

Audio Specialists will demonstrate proficiency in the production of live sound, equipment troubleshooting, basic repairing, and adaptability in receiving and accommodating audio needs. These experienced technicians will frequently share their knowledge with student technicians, providing educational benefit to the student experience in addition to faithfully producing Conservatory events. They will collaborate to improve and maintain the audio equipment inventory, creatively working to improve equipment usage. Lastly, this individual may on occasion be enlisted to assist with basic camera and livestream operation within a team of other technicians.

The ideal candidate will meet these challenges, an display proactivity in taking on exciting projects, while adding new skills and experiences to their portfolio. The Audio Specialist should enjoy working in a collaborative environment where creativity, initiative, passion, artistry, and empathy are highly valued.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in music production & engineering or equivalent preferred

  • 1–2 years of related professional experience

  • Deep knowledge of the use of audio mixers, workhorse audio equipment, wireless systems, and instrument amplification

  • Sound communication and interpersonal skills required

  • The ability to work well with diverse audiences, manage workload independently at times, and oversee ongoing projects concurrently

  • Availability to work evenings and weekends

  • Basic familiarity with video camera use is not required but is preferred

Ability to lift and carry 30 pounds
