The Ent Center for the Arts (ECFA) Audio Engineer oversees audio production in the multi-venue Ent Center for the Arts and, as needed, will serve as lead audio engineer for select events and primary technical manager for the Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) department recording studio. The Audio Engineer will assist the ECFA Production Manager with coordinating personnel and equipment to support events as well as overseeing the care, maintenance, and upkeep of audio production equipment used throughout the facility. This position is a liaison to and between artists, touring technicians, event clients, contractors, VAPA, and other Ent Center staff. The Audio Engineer provides training to production personnel, advocates workplace safety, and implements emergency response procedures as needed.

Internally, this position works closely and collaboratively with all programmatic and academic departments housed in the ECFA, as well as the Event Services staff, on the support and production of facility events. The ECFA Audio Engineer coordinates regularly with custodial and maintenance staff from the Facilities Services department. Externally this position, along with the ECFA Production Manager, will collaborate with rental clients, community partner organizations, artists, artists’ technical representatives to support the production of their events in ECFA venues.

Job Duties:

  • During events, oversee all aspects of the audio and video production.
  • Manage and supervise production crew to complete event setups and load-ins, including all technical equipment, for events in the Ent Center venues, public spaces, and the exterior.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot issues with facility wide AV system, both venues and academic spaces including the recording studio.
  • Provide technical expertise and advice to campus community members and external clients producing events at the Ent Center as well as the internal programs including the Artist Series, Theatreworks, and UCCS Visual and Performing Arts academic department.
  • Assists the Production Manager with assessing the feasibility, equipment needs, budget requirements, and sourcing needs of all technical riders and specs for rental companies, touring presentations, and UCCS events taking place in the performance spaces of the ECFA.
  • Communicate related custodial and facility maintenance needs to the appropriate UCCS Facilities staff.
  • Works with Production Crew and Custodial staff to ensure the cleanliness and organization of all Back of House areas including but not limited to dressing rooms, green room, loading docks, control areas and catwalks.
  • Conducts trainings on the operation and safe use of all technical assets and equipment within the Ent Center as well as emergency procedures. Ensures production crews are in compliance with and meeting expectations of safe operation and use.
  • Enforces safe-use guidelines for equipment and emergency procedures for back of house operations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

For the purposes of FLSA, this position has been determined to be exempt from (not eligible for) overtime under FLSA.

What We Offer:

Salary Range: Generally starting at $43,013 - $57,351

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

This position is dependent on the availability of auxiliary revenues funding.

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in any field plus three (3) years of experience in sound engineering/live production mixing that includes the use of large format audio mixers and a working knowledge of digital audio interfaces and analog interfaces or
  • Associate’s degree in any field plus five (5) years of experience in sound engineering/live production mixing that includes the use of large format audio mixers and a working knowledge of digital audio interfaces and analog interfaces or
  • Seven (7) years of experience in sound engineering/live production mixing that includes the use of large format audio mixers and a working knowledge of digital audio interfaces and analog interfaces.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Audio Engineering, Audio or Music Production, Technical Theatre or related field.
  • Four (4) years of experience working with audio and visual equipment, setup, operation, support, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience in DMX lighting protocol including programming and troubleshooting intelligent lighting fixtures. 
  • Prior experience supervising other production crew
  • Certification for Dante Audio Systems – Level 3
  • Experience with Yamaha CL5 and Yamaha CL3 consoles
  • Proficiency in QLab
  • Previous experience mentoring students and staff in a performing arts venue at an institution of higher education
  • Experience in professional live and studio recording engineering

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to move.  Employee is required to reach, handle, finger, feel, taste/smell, have far acuity, depth perception, color vision and normal field of vision.  Employee will be exposed to extreme cold/heat, and wet/humid weather conditions. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and will frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
