Central Sound at Arizona PBS is an award-winning premier provider of audio-media services. Our audio production team records Arizona's music for the world to hear. We produce numerous programs for local and national broadcast, including those featured on the airwaves of KBAQ-FM, Classical Arizona PBS, as well as those featured online on Arizona PBS at azpbs.org. We are seeking an aspiring Audio Engineer / Editor to join our dynamic team. This individual records, edits, and mixes audio content for podcast productions, online music video production including interviews, voice-overs, sound effects, and music beds.  With a passion for audio, they collaborate with an award-winning production team of Central Sound at Arizona PBS to assist with location recordings, broadcast productions, and audio for video projects. 

The Audio Engineer / Editor helps shape the audio aspects of productions, ensuring content meets podcast and/or broadcast loudness standards. This individual will:

  • record voice overs and interviews, both in studio and remote;
  • edit and mix both interview-style and scripted shows utilizing a variety of elements (e.g.: nat. sound, SFX, music);
  • assist with recording music ensembles, whether it is on location or in our television studios;
  • mix live streaming and broadcast events
  • Operate and manage an on-location sound reinforcement system. 

The position requires the ability to edit and mix audio, effectively utilize audio repair/restoration software, operate audio equipment to properly record/edit voiceovers and interviews, troubleshoot signal flow and equipment issues, complete podcast production and prepare audio and related media content for delivery. Other duties include training and overseeing activities of student workers.

The ideal candidate will have experience with recording and production, voice recordings, natural (nat.) sound recording, multi-track recording, with a clear understanding of proper microphone techniques in a variety of environments. Working knowledge of a DAW similar to Magix Sequoia, Steinberg Nuendo, Reaper, and/or Adobe Audition required. Background in utilizing a variety of audio of IP networking tools such as Zencastr, ipDTL, Dante, or similar a plus, but not required. Knowledge of music theory and familiarity with the classical music repertoire helpful.

Selected candidates will be required to submit audio examples of work, with accompanying documentation.

This is a full-time, 40 hour per week, benefit eligible, University Staff position that is partially grant funded.

Days and Schedule:
This position requires a flexible schedule. While normal office hours, Monday - Friday, 10:00am-6:00pm are expected, often special events, recordings and productions occur during evening and weekend hours. Weekdays off will be provided in exchange for weekend hours worked.  Based on business needs a flexible work schedule may be available after training and meeting department criteria.
